Your best chance would be to google it
I'm from SE Oklahoma, but Hugo is in the very farthest SE portion of the state (about a three hour drive). I don't know Hugo very well, other than it's rural. I suppose it's pretty, but as far as employment I don't know. Best of luck to you and yours!

my husband's job does not require us to be near Hugo until after the new year...maybe closer to then -something will reveal itself. It does seem awfully close to TX, we will try there also. thnx for the reply.

I know nothing about jobs, the people, etc. in Hugo, but I've driven through it numerous times and I always thought it looked like a kinda cool old town. Don't know much about places across the border though. I believe for the most part Texas would be quite a bit more expensive, but there may well be a lot more housing options as well.
Good luck to you and when you get here, welcome!

Well, I think it's largely TX property taxes and health care that are really high--my father moved from OK to TX to retire and is moving back to OK, saying moving to TX was "financial suicide". But since you'll be renting, the issues he faced may not affect you.
At any rate, good luck. Where are you coming from?

We live in Misissippi. Our home is here, but my husband works "shut downs"' and the next one is in OK. My sister- in -law is from OK,near Ok City, and she says it is a very pretty place.
I can't wait to get there. We have 6 children and they are very excited about seeing a new place.

My home town in Antlers, OK, about 20 miles north of Hugo. Southeast OK is very friendly with fewer business opportunities than the larger cities, but a wonderful place to live. Hugo, and Atoka are more progressive than Antlers, but all are good places to raise a family. Hugo has a huge lake, and lots of tourist opportunities, and Durant is only about 40 miles West, and there is a University there. Ada, Ok, also has a University, and is a wonderful area. All of those towns are in SE OK, and have affordable housing (there will be more rental houses than apartment buildings probably). SE OK has the lowest income of all the State, but the people have hearts of Gold.

I know this is an old thread, but I'd thought I'd share. I'm from Paris, just 20 miles south of Hugo on the TX side. Hugo isn't the best town from an economic standpoint, but it has very pretty scenery. There are also much better job opportunities in Paris, so you could live in Hugo and work in Paris (I knew many who did just that).
Hugo is close to the old town of Doaksville, the first town created by the relocated Choctaw tribe, so there's plenty of history, too. Also, Hugo is the winter home to many circuses, and its Mt Olive Cemetery has the famous "Showman's Rest" section, where the tomb stones are in the shape of elephants, circus tents, strong men, etc. Just a bit of random trivia!
