Speaking of Linux, I've often thought of trying that. But, every time I tried I would get some kind of hangup. We're running Windows Vista right now, and it seems to work pretty well.

Macintosh, those are for sissies! Running Windows is like having a car that breaks down all of the time and having to get under the hood to fix her up a little bit. Yep, a little duct tape goes a looooong way.

To stay on topic, I'll say "Yes, Oklahoma is okay for you!"

When was the last time you tried?
I KNOW a gentleman (and computer geek?) like you would LOVE and appreciate Linux once you got into the right distro.

In fact... I have an LD plan and I'm willing to put my money where my mouth is... If you REALLY wanted to give Linux a serious try, I'd call you and talk you through it all
at NO cost to you.... Can't beat that!

I'm pretty sure being in your profession, that with a little support from me, you'd have NO problems whatsoever.

(It's no harder than Windoze these days... My wife is computer illiterate and my daughter's not a huge machine-head either and they both have no problems with it... Once properly set up.)

And YES, I'm serious about this offer.

Ewwwwwww.......

Running Vista is like castrating your computer!
I'll refrain from going into the GIGANTIC list of why that is, since this forum's server is only so big and I don't want to max-out the drives, but think about this... What does Vista give you (except that it's a tad prettier than XP) that a well secured XP box doesn't already give you?
In fact... Vista is STILL a handicap as far as business apps go.

Sounds like the art of car repair in VT.

To stay on topic, I'll say "Yes, Oklahoma is okay for you!"

It sure sounds like it. I can't wait to find out.

I'm afraid my wife and daughter would have a fit if I did it on this family computer. But, if I ever buy another one, I'll take you up on the Linux deal. Can't beat service like that!

Have you ever considered a dual-boot (Win & Linux on the same machine) like we have here? XP still rules as far as high-end gaming goes.

Not even if you were paying!

Think about it... I'm pretty sure you won't be sorry. I even did up a dual-boot laptop for a computer illiterate friend who seems to be doing OK with it... (Was talking on the phone with him while I was typing this.)

M.

P.S.
(Realized we strayed off topic...)
Ummm... So what's the temperature in OK today?
It was between 18 and 35 today here.

It's alright folks... We've gone to DM with the Linux stuff.

Forgive me for getting back on topic here (please don't byte me), but I have two questions for pewterguy:

What is your wifey thinking of all this talk of moving to weather-horrible, ghastly-summer-humidity, bug-ridden, backwoods redneck/savage casino playin-ndnz, red-dirt-water farm pond fishin, oil-well-disaster-waiting-to-happen Oklahoma?

Second, since I consider Oklahoma my tribal homeland, I have often wondered what an outsider (anglo or otherwise) would see in Oklahoma to even remotely consider moving here?

And please don't say the people on this forum. We CDF are on our best behavior and we can tell you first hand, OK has its share of idiots.

osiyo from the Cherokee, Redbird.......( I just live in the Pawnee Nation)......This weather-horrible, ghastly-summer-humidity, bug-ridden, backwoods redneck/savage casino playin-ndnz, red-dirt-water farm pond fishin, oil-well-disaster-waiting-to-happen Oklahoma just seems to feel like home. We got problems but the spirits are alive and well.

Syn, you did hear about the latest Vista patch? It installs XP............

Osiyo, goodpasture. You have a goot NDN name! Goodpasture.... I like that name.

Since I am playing devil's advocate, this question is open to any transplants, which may help pewterman with his upcoming decision.

Third question: what are some of your concerns, fears, or doubts about moving to Oklahoma? And how did they pan out once you moved here?

Here is a pic of my first rodeo that I went to at the OK State Fair. It was pretty cool.

HINT: The pic is a cowboy riding a bronc that ran right up in front of me. I snapped this pic and it came out looking like some LSD trip or something. **ahem, at least that's what I heard an LSD trip looks like...

Zap guns just make buildings disappear, they don't harm people. They just leave them where they are standing. But if you zap your neighbor's home they will have to move somewhere, but then they could rebuild, couldn't they.

Okay, computer question. Where we live we often get power shortages, and so I can be doing something and all the sudden I my computer turns off. Is this harmful to it? If so, can I do something about it? Like buy something for it?

Wow! Far out. That rodeo photo is out of sight. You should frame it.
