And we don't use THAT much compared to most.

The heating fuels available here are wood, oil and propane... None are cheap here.
Although we got a good deal on wood this year... NOTE: Wood is only good until the temps drop below 20 or so... At that point we have to use oil.

My electric bill averages around $150 per month.
And we don't use THAT much compared to most.

NJ rates are very high. I have a 975 square foot cape cod house. My gas and electric bill is budgeted this year at $301.00 per month. My "budgeted" amount goes up every year, because I always end up owing at the end of the budget year. And my local property taxes are $390 per month. Expensive place to live, NJ.

We filled our propane tank in February....cost us over $200. We are down to 10% so i guess we will be spending another $250 or $300 in a few weeks. but we only use it for water heat, cooking and back up room heat. Electric has been running $40 a month, but that was with the AC running. Total Taxes are $189 for last year....but the house is only a 1064 sf 2 br 1 bath on 9.5 acres.

Hopefully we'll both get to OK okay.

I just hope all the folks escaping to OK don't take their citified ways with them.

One thing I've seen here in rural NH is that we get folks from NY, CT, MA etc. and then they try to change everything here to be like the place they left behind. I certainly don't want to see that happen in OK.

You don't want to know what heating costs here...
I will say this much however...
After what we're used to here, we won't require heat in OK....
Not until we've been there a while and our blood thins out at least.

I'm quite envious of your electric and property tax rates.

Up here, there are only about 5-10 days a year that AC is required...
It's a good thing too, because that would push my $150 per month electric bill to over $200.

My section of New Jersey is small towns and farmland. My town is only 23,000 people. My daughter is a horseback rider and I drive my Silverado 1500 with the country station blasting all the time. We attend Toby Keith and Kenny Chesney concerts with our cowboy hats and boots. Needless to say we probably will fit in better in OK than we do here in our own town. But then we spent years living in Nevada, Arizona and Colorado.

One reason I am not too interested in Edmond is because someone mentioned in another post that all the new people go there. I don't want to go where all the new people are for the very reason you mention, Computer Guy. I agree, I hope all the new people to OK don't try to make it something else.

How about if all you Okies say OK is awful, and people really want to go to NH, then I post the link to my place that's for sale in NH?

(Can't blame a guy for trying....)
But, a 2,000 sqft. dwelling with a 64'X48' outbuilding for $35K under assessed value "IS" a GOOD deal..

Now to get back on topic...

I saw an article in the paper there showing the entire downtown being overrun by crickets or locusts... How often does that happen?
