Geez, I'm sorry you had your house flooded GP. Please don't think I was trying to be tacky. That must've been a horrible experience.

We set a record in 2007 for the most declared disasters ever in one state. Eight disasters in one year is a lot, even for us.

Here is the story:

blossum is on a distinguished road
Just wanted to thank everyone who was giving good unbiased information for a change. We are looking for a change from FL but don't know where. We are spending time in different areas looking at homes and jobs. OK is on the short list so thanks for the indirect help. We are use to bugs, but can you plant a garden in OK? I have never been able to grow anything here, and I sure miss it. Indiana was farm country and anything grew. Do most of your homes have basements? Never thought I would miss one of those too.

Hi blossum

I garden in Oklahoma, and it is probably a bigger challenge than in Indiana, because of the variable weather. We do have a long growing season though. I plant tomatoes, cucumbers, potatoes, peas, black eyed peas, squash, pumpkins etc. and usually have success.

Basements are not common in Oklahoma for various reasons.

Is the average OK soil any good, or do you truck in loam for your garden?

My wife loves her vegetable gardens...
Even with the extremely short growing season we have in NH.

I have time for one post before its off to work.

The soil in Oklahoma is better than good, which is why it is a big agricultural state. However, Oklahoma has so many varying soil types and terrain that it depends on where you are.

Where I grew up in Gerty, the soil was excellent, but you could go ten miles away where although the soil was good it was too rocky. It all depends on where you are CG.

BTW, it's good to see you back!

Usually the soil is pretty good, but it varies quite a bit. The red clay some places have is hard to work with, but can grow a great garden once you add some compost to it. I like the sandy loam myself. My garden right now is on a rocky place, so I use raised beds.
