When I am on sl, I only spent two hours on, and those 2 hours are the hours it takes my DH to wake up. Other words he says, "Don't talk to me I am not awake yet."

Thanks for the welcome back CG. I appreciate it.

I turned my R.E. guy onto the NH forum today figuring he could pick up a few prospects there and get this place sold so I can finally get to OK...

After giving some of it a read, I'm starting to wonder...

With a few exceptions (because there are good people everywhere),
it's just not as friendly as the OK forum.
I can't believe how much the state has changed in a few short years.

Probably because there are too many MA transplants here now.
(Yeah, I grew up in MA, but I got out ASAP.)

Hopefully the picture thread will do the job...
It IS extremely pretty up here in the Northern part of the state.

Wish me luck!

THANKS Colleen!
(I REALLY appreciate it! And I need the luck too!)

You make Mustang sound very attractive...
You may want to squelch that stuff though...
I'm sure you wouldn't want an anti-Hellary neighbor....
Ooops you probably already have enough of those in OK.

Actually, we're nice, quiet neighbors and my wife always sends
homemade cookies and soup to our 2 good neighbors...
(As opposed to our 1 BAD neighbor!)
It might not be that bad living near us.

We also get along great with another couple next door...
He likes McCain and she likes Hellary....
(I don't like either candidate, but they're (the couple) nice enough folk...
Although I must admit to a certain perverse joy
when the snow plow buried her Hellary yard sign. )

Have you guys gotten any quotes on moving all your stuff from NJ to OK yet?

With the exception of some irreplaceable items and some items having sentimental value,
we found it would almost be cheaper to get rid of everything and buy new stuff when we get to OK.

Curious on your take.

From my end [assuming WA is roughly the same distance from OK as NH] a U-Haul is far and away the cheapest. Allied gave me a quote of approx 3,800.00, U-Pack was 1,225.00 - but they said they only deliver to OKC, I'd have to arrange local transport from there, and U-Haul was around 580.00, depending on how many extra days I kept the truck, but they allowed 5 days to load, drive, and unload. That doesn't include gas, though. But the U-Haul also means I won't have to pay extra for transporting myself and my pets, we can ride along.

Hmmmmm...

I work for a client that rents Budget trucks, and when I was there one time I saw that a medium truck rental from NH to CO was almost $10K.

The move with "professional" movers for the 2 lousy hours from Derry, NH to Whitefield, NH was $2,500 back in 2001...
(And the b*stards stole some of our stuff!)

So from all that, I gather it would be cheaper to get rid of most of our stuff...

I'm open to advice from others though!

We got quotes from Allied, Bekin and Atlas. We ended up using PODS. They were half the price of the lowest bid we got. They're delivering our 16 foot POD on 2/22. They will pick it up on March 3rd (the day after we leave), and deliver it to Mustang on the 11th. We have until March 22nd to get it emptied.

We're leaving behind a bit of stuff ourselves. We scour the garage sales and house sales for good 2nd hand stuff. Have done that pretty much all our married life. We're not big on new furniture, it just costs too much. So we'll be looking to replace some things when we move. Since we're no longer going by weight, we may take more than we originally planned.

How did you get them to do that?! When I called they insisted they could deliver one for me to fill, but they ONLY deliver to OKC! I said they'd been recommended by someone who'd used them to move elsewhere in the state, and they said 'We didn't do it.' I said 'It hasn't been all that long, I'm sure they know who they paid for the move,' and the girl said again 'It wasn't us, I don't care WHAT you were told.' And she hung up on me.

Budget is not U-Haul. They start pricing from where you are leaving, enter the zip code of where you'll be arriving, and that's that. The only thing they warned me about was that rates were somewhat higher, like 10-15%, during the summer when people move between school years and take their kids to college. Even so, that's not much of an increase for the convenience, and the extra charge per day for keeping it overtime is less than the cost of renting a car. And the truck I asked about was a 26 footer.
