The last thing we need are tick-borne ailments. ![]() GP and schousse haven't died yet... That's always a GOOD sign. ![]() As much as I dislike poisoning myself, I suppose picking up some spray might be a prudent thing to do... Or maybe I'll just make friends with the local Avon lady like Seab did. He has the softest skin. ![]() Haven't gotten any chigger bites yet.... ![]() When I was much younger, I found that slathering yourself with beer, inside and out kept the mosquitoes at bay. (Or at least you didn't notice them.) ![]() |

I can't stand chemical bug sprays---Id' rather be bitten---but I know I need to protect myself and the kids so I use a herb-based bug spray. It works surprisingly well. You do have to re-spray every so often if you're going to be outside for a long time. Once when we were camping, we sprayed ourselves inside our tent and it got saturated with the stuff and bugs wouldn't even come inside. As a bonus, it smells great to humans.
I get it from Healing Herbals through the Oklahoma Food Co-op in case anyone is interested in trying it. |

This summer will be the real test for the newbies. I can no longer take the summer heat. We just stay inside nowadays. Gettin old. Not like the old days when we were young and dumb. We used to walk for miles and miles across the pastures huntin with our .22's and fishin. Being a kid in Oklahoma was the best. Anyone remember stopping by the windmills and getting that ice cold water on a hot summer day? I had a friend who's parents had watermelons. We used to take a big spoon and eat watermelons. |

We have a dork friend, from california no less
, who has moved to Oklahoma and keeps baby chicks AND 5 turkeys inside his house. (yes, his house stinks!)![]() He bought 140 acres or so and is living his dream of being a rancher. But the guy is clueless and very stubborn. He will not listen to reason. He keeps losing cows because he bred a brehmer to his heifers and the cows die during the birth process. So, a week or so ago, his cow went down out in the pasture, so he slept in the pasture to keep the coyotes away, then it rained on him, so he chained 3 dogs to the cow. Then the dogs ate the cow. I kid you not. He had 26 dogs at one time. Now he ~only~ has 18 dogs. He sleeps with 5 of them. ![]() Everyday he calls and gives us another Day In the Life story. And no... he is not married. Sounds like a woman's nightmare. I wonder if we can export him to Jammie's territory? |
