Well, I have a 'chickens inside' story, though it was in AK and not OK. When my kids were little, we decided fresh eggs and organic chicken would be good, so I ordered 75 straight run heavy/light breeds, mixed. The hatchery sent an extra half dozen or so in case any of them died on the way. ALL the little buggers lived - AND they showed up before I got the chicken house and pen built! So they lived in a big cardboard box [I mean big, the electric kitchen stove had come in it], next to the oil stove. Seemed like just a few days before those little peepers were flying out - so I had to make a cover for it, which took time away from chicken house construction. And you would not believe how much dust all those tiny birds raised! It took me nearly a year to get it all cleaned up. All the walls were rought-cut spruce, and every square inch had to be vacuumed. The only thing I ever came across that was worse was powder from a chemical fire extinguisher.

Life just seems to happen to me. Sometimes, looking back, I don't quite believe it myself. In fact, if I hadn't been there, I wouldn't have believed it.
![]() Some of my friends keep telling me I should write a book, but too many of the people are still alive and I don't think most of them would care to see themselves in print, no matter how well-disguised.And some of the stories I'd just as soon not remember - like the time my son [who was an adult by then] happened to mention that several months earlier he'd been walking home, and a bear climbed out of a dumpster and went after him. He spent the rest of the night rolling from side to side under a handy pickup truck so the bear couldn't reach him. It finally gave up and left after about 4 hours, but he didn't get much of a night's sleep. Last edited by karibear; 06-28-2008 at 11:10 PM. Reason: addition |

I would like to know any information about the Claremore Oklahoma area, climate, cost of living, types of bugs, just generally the pro's and con's of the area. I originally came from Poteau Oklahoma but haven't lived there in fifty years. The claremore area interests me but I don't know much about it any info would be really helpful.

Ardmore,
population is somewhere around 30k or so. 1-1.5 hours from DFW. Lake Texoma fairly close and 1.5 hours from Norman. Also plenty of major universities in DFW area to attend. |

Be careful what you ask for 'cuz you might get it. You are considering moving from a familiar culture to an unknown one. Oklahoma is Native American and Republican.
Tulsa and OKC have horrendous traffic. NE OK is beautiful rolling hills, flora, fauna and Grand Lake. It also has spiders, scorpions, slugs, and snakes. Talequah is the Cherokee tribal headquarters. It's also had 10 straight days of 100+ heat index. Tulsa is upscale abd a beautuful city. The metro area is 1M+. It has a university. Home schooled Kids in OK are smart! Ggod for you, mom. Another option is NW Arkansas. Fayeteville has an awesome University, and a nice mix of upscale and downtown. Things to do, historic Eureka Springs, Pea Ridge Civil War Battlefield, and War Eagle Mill are nearby and its in the Ozark foot hills. It's cooler in the summer but not nearly as miserable in the winter as where you live. Of these states, KS, MO, OK, AR, IL, TX., MO is the cheapest to live. Ya gets what ya pays for. I've lived in all of them. |

Well, at least it's probably too hot for the spiders. I haven't seen any, lately, but then I haven't been spending much time outside, either. And someone told me today it's too dry for the normal multitude of ticks and skeeters.

Nah, spiders normally come out at night while you are sleeping.... then they crawl all over you and (according to the fwd fwd fwd idiotic emails) lay their eggs in your mouth while you sleep.
