I remember celebrating the Centennial in Minnesota when I was a boy--1958. I think the Dakotas came in sometime in the 1880's. But they still have a much smaller population than Oklahoma. I wonder if it has anything to do with the weather?--Duh!
![]() My Grandpa took a train out to the Dakotas in the 1890's to look for land for possible homesteading. He shot a pheasant out there and it was stuffed and still around when I was a boy. Those old Norwegian, German and Ukranian farmers just lived with the cold. I'm not so tough. I lived in Grand Forks for 3 years and it was really cold. Had a big airforce blue parka with orange lining and a fur-fringed hood. It was like looking out of a tunnel or stove pipe. I was younger then. So we have to draw a line due South and get to a place that is warmer but still alot like the land we knew up North. One foot on the plains and the other foot in the woods and hills. Happy Birthday to the Sooner State! |

I love those old b&w photos. Those people had it rough in those days. All the complaining we do about the weather. They had to live with it. |

HAPPY 100TH BIRTHDAY OKLAHOMA!
Did anyone see the special on TV? It was great! Toby Keith, Vince Gill, Reba McIntyre, Carrie Underwood, Oklahoma Army Guards from Fort Sill ~ just a few of the famous Okies on hand to celebrate. And all kinds of music and celebration and fireworks ~ it was awesome.... |
