Default Native American Art and the Red Earth Festival

Homepage - Red Earth Museum
Red Earth Festival opens June 5, 2009.

The Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art: Home has an interesting collection donated by Rennard Strickland, who is of Osage and Cherokee heritage, served as curator of Native American art at OU's art museum in the early 1990s. In 2007, he announced that he wished to give his remarkable collection to the museum in memory of his mother, Adell Tucker Strickland.

Spirit Red: Visions of Native American Artists from the Rennard Strickland Collection opens with a free, public reception at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3, in conjunction with the annual Oklahoma City-based Red Earth Native American Cultural Festival.

Default Red Earth Festival

Although Red Earth is easily the most commercialized gathering in Oklahoma, the prize money draws dancers from all over the U.S. We love to go for the art show and to see a few old friends.

For those who are new to Oklahoma, here a few pics from last year's gathering.

Volunteers at Red Earth make the rounds in the art show with goodies.

Music from Peru

And Grandma and Grandpa are always good for a gift or two!

I'll see if I can dig up those cell phones we buried in the meantime. That will be a good way to get them to you. I know we have them, I just can't find them.
We have a ghost that hides things in our house. I am not kidding. We have things disappear all the time.

Or maybe our clutter is coming to life!

We usually go on Saturday, late morning around 11ish to noonish. This year I hope you don't spend the day ducking behind people trying to elude us!!

Mine does that to me constantly, too. I've found the best way to get around it is to stomp on the floor a few times and swear at it. Things usually pop back out of hiding, then. It never ceases to amaze me where they show up, though.

Don't stress yourself digging them up. A friend of Anna gave her one of her old phones to use. That's why I enjoyed the movie "The Borrowers" so much. It explained why so many things disappear in my house. LOL

Okay, we'll go Saturday morning around 11 and see if we can keep a low profile again.
