Any fans of the TV show "Little People, Big World" here? They had some Native People on the show last night.
Thanks, Redbird, I added it to my favorites. I have a question for you. Why did (or do) Native Americans refer to themselves as The People? I have seen that so many places, in relationship to various tribes.

It must take place in the Carolinas during the Revolutionary War. I didn't see Nancy Ward, Beloved Woman, in there. Brian Ward was, but I don't recall what Nancy's husband was named. I am not an actor, but I would love to see the script.

I guess the "lost warrior" was the Issac character. But with Dragging Canoe in it, I am surprised Nancy wasn't in it.
Dragging Canoe

GP, I found some good reading on Dragging Canoe. Really neat story. Also some cherokee geneology where they mention Beloved Woman in case you are interested.

And people always think of the Cherokee as peaceful people. We learn something new every day.

Colleeng, that is a good question and I would think it is more of a human trait not specific to just Native Americans.
Most tribes have their own names which are quite different from modern names. Cherokee=Tsalagi, Chippewa=Ojibway, etc.
And each tribal name for itself would have a meaning based on a "literal" interpretation which may stem from the tribal origins story or myths. That is a good anthropological question.

I'm German, Irish, French, and Apache. The French part is volatile, the Irish part can hold grudges forever, the Apache is the most creative at revenge, and the German part is the most methodical at carrying it out. I've spent my whole life thinking and re-thinking over and over about whether or not any one person really deserves me for an enemy. I'm pretty sure I've got my inclinations under control now, though. And with all that aside, I'm the most loyal of friends.

Navajo Wisdom

THE BOTTLE OF WINE

For all of us who are married, were married, wish you were married or wish you weren't married, this is something to smile about the next time you see bottle of wine: Sally was driving home from one of her business trips in Northern Arizona when she saw an elderly Navajo woman walking on the side of the road. As the trip was a long and quiet one, she stopped the car and asked the Navajo woman if she would like a ride. With a silent nod of thanks, the woman got into the car. Resuming the journey, Sally tried in vain to make a bit of small talk with the Navajo woman. The old woman just sat silently, looking intently at everything she saw, studying every little detail, until she noticed a brown bag on the seat next to Sally.

"What in bag?" asked the old woman.
Sally looked down at the brown bag and said, "It's a bottle of wine. I got it for my husband."

The Navajo woman was silent for another moment or two. Then speaking with the quiet wisdom of an elder, she said: "Good trade....."
