WILKES-BARRE - It could be another month and a half before it's decided whether a 15-year-old armed robbery suspect from Hazleton will be tried as an adult or juvenile.
The teenager was charged as an adult for smacking another teenager in the face with a handgun and robbing him of $1.50 in October.
Last month, Attorney Mark Singer, the teenager's public defender, made a motion to have the case moved back to juvenile court.
A hearing was scheduled Wednesday, but was continued for up to 45 days to allow the boy to be evaluated by an expert. Singer said he has a expert who will testify the teen is amenable to treatment and there are facilities available to treat him.
Because of his age, The Citizens' Voice is withholding the teenage suspect's name.
Police say the teen brandished a silver pistol during a Oct. 20 robbery and struck the victim on the forehead. He and an accomplice demanded cash, and got away with a dollar bill and two quarters.
The defendant - who stands about 4-feet 9-inches tall and weighs about 100 pounds - remains jailed in the Luzerne County Correctional Facility on robbery, theft, assault and firearms charges.
The teen remains jailed in lieu of $35,000 bail.
