Happy Hanukkah Britney!!
Penguie, I loved the Harry Potter series!

(but then I read lots of weird stuff

) My faves will always be ALL of Madeleine L'Engle's books, and anything by C.S Lewis. A couple of other Authors you might look for would be:
Susan Cooper: "The Dark is Rising" series,
1. Over Sea, Under Stone (1965)
2. The Dark Is Rising (1973)
3. Greenwitch (1974)
4. The Grey King (1975)
5. Silver on the Tree (1977)
and Patricia C. Wrede "Enchanted Forest Chronicles"
1. Dragonsbane (1990)
aka Dealing with Dragons
2. Searching for Dragons (1991)
aka Dragon Search
3. Calling on Dragons (1993)
4. Talking to Dragons (1984)
I have both of those in a 'Hard Copy' version that compile all of the stories, but you should be able to find the titles individually at a used book store.

That's where quite a few of my books came from too! Another good place to look is your local library... the one in our town back in Cali. would sell their older used books for REALLY cheap! (sometimes 10-25 cents)
The best way (I think) to make sure a book is "O.K." for you to read, would be to have your Mom or Dad read it first! We always did that with our kids, and it also gave us a chance to sit and talk about the book later.
ALL of "us parents" have different ideas about what is and isn't appropriate for our kids to read, so you should always ask yours first... they know YOU better than any one else does!!
Almost forgot... one other series
IF you can still find them around would be "The Planet Builders" by Robyn Tallis.
More Sci-Fi than Fantasy, But I still liked them.
