And in so far as sensitivity training?

Goodpasture, as far as sexual harrassement goes, I think you'll enjoy this story. The trainer of our harrassment class brought up a situation where a co-worker asks another co-worker out. The co-worker declines. The trainer said that there should never be another attempt to ask that person out because no means no. Well (being the trouble maker that I am), I said that if that "rule" had been in effect 30 years ago, I would have missed out on a 30 year marriage because I said "no" the first three times my husband asked me out. In those days it was call "pursuing" today it's called "harrassing" or "stalking." There goes romance right out the window -- no wonder we have so many single late 20s and 30 year olds. They're afraid to ask each other out!

Hey Colleen, here's a little story from our local paper about the High School...

Duncan Banner

How many times do you see the word Christmas?

OR...

You could by my spread in NH which is almost walking distance to skiing.
A 3 minute walk to skating. A 2 minute ride to the skimobile trails. A 5 minute drive to the best hiking you've ever seen... I could go on, but then you'd ask why I wanted to go to OK.

Anyway, one of the things we were told in this training was we had to be very careful about not offending anyone. There were certain words we could not use in the workplace (yes, I know Freedom of Speech is at risk here). Some of the words on the list were words that no sane, compassionate person would use anyway, but some of them "boy" "girl" "dumb" "black" "crazy" are words we use in various contexts. How can you tell your co-worker that you prefer your morning coffee "black?" How can you tell your boss what a smart "boy" or "girl" you have at home? Or that some of your teenagers ideas about music is "crazy?" If someone overhears a conversation with any of those words in it -- that doesn't involve them, mind you, they can take offense at what's being said and file charges against you. In fact this happened to one of my co-workers who made a joke that someone (not involved in the conversation) overheard and filed charges against him. He had to go for "senstivity counselling." And believe me, I heard the joke, and there wasn't anything offensive about it and the person it was directed to laughed.

So it seems due to the fact that we have to be veeerrrryyyy careful not to offend anyone, they cannot even call the gathering "Holiday", let alone (gulp) Christmas!!!!
WOW! I though MA was bad.... (And it was, but NJ seems to take the cake!)

It must be awful to have to walk on eggshells all day...
I couldn't do it any longer, so I left MA and I shut my mouth at work these days.
(I just smile and remind myself that I'm making more than a dollar a minute here.)

You poor kid... You'll get more out of OK than even we will.
Godspeed!

M.

Since you're such a nice guy, I suppose I could give you the old Eddie Murphy line:
"Hey boy... You're lookin' mighty fine in those tight jeans."

Do you feel better now?

Loved that story ----- even though I kept looking over my shoulder to make sure no one could see me reading something that might offend them.
