When I lived in Michigan as a kid, one winter my little sister was playing under the eaves of the house when a small icesicle fell and hit her in the head. Her long blonde hair turned red in seconds. Come to find out it was just bearly a scratch, but seeing it would have made anyone think it was a masacre.

The uproar was all the way out in Ca. I was with an Advocates group called
" Citizens for Property Right" and we were trying to help fight it.
Eminent Domain was being abused across the country.
Cities and Counties were buying up property at market value with eminent domain and selling it to developers. Eminent Domain can only be used when the property is needed for "Public Use".

Takings are for public benefit, not public use. And fair compensation MUST be paid. In a lot of states, rights of way can be taken for private entities like gas pipelines or electrical transmission, because the gas and electricity is essential to the communities they serve. One thing that I thought was pretty good was that because of the New Haven situation, a lot of states have passed laws prohibiting the condemnation of land on behalf of commercial enterprise. Oklahoma is one of those states.
FWIW, I LOVE condemnation work...........the original pay is good (and fairly simple) and litigation is lucrative......and the fees are guaranteed by the state.
