I'd rather have a tornado coming toward me than a big fire. Glad to hear that everything is okay for our Duncan area posters.

When the fire season is over, it is nice to have an appreciation dinner or something for all the fire departments. They do a great job!

Default Town day

Time for some real okie fun. We are venturing into the city, the Big Town, aka OKC.

We'uns is going to Sam's Club to visit the "sample ladies" who give away the food. We buy everything bulk. Its a pain, but in the long run it saves money. It is also feels absolutely ludicrous to walk out with gallon containers of jalapenos, 25 lb bags of rice and 100 rolls of t.p. But hey, its just another day in the life, right?

Now you know how slow life is in rural Oklahoma.

LOL @ RB (last sentence). I thought it was soooo funny when I moved here to Erick from Albuquerque back in 1996. People actually had lawnmower races here, and they have Rattlesnake Derbys in Mangum. Finally, I figured out that Okies will do most anything to make life more interesting!!!!! Better than watching the grass grow, I guess.l

It's everywhere. One of my favorite shows used to be The Competition, I forget what channel it was. Every week was something different - lawn mower races, old school bus demolition derbies, and so on. Best one was a mule pull - it was so neat, watching the teams of mules all jazzed up and ready to gogogo! They'd be waiting at the starting line with someone holding them, kind of jitterbugging in place, until the guy holding them let go and WHAM! they were off. Slammed full speed ahead into the harnesses and haul away.
