That's right,,,There was nothing like that out west, but I remember receiving magazines from dealers in Texas and Tennessee about Lawn tractor pulls and races. To get those to go over 4-5 mph they would have to be modified with a centrifical clutch, like on a go-cart, using a twin cylinder engine.

It is also feels absolutely ludicrous to walk out with gallon containers of jalapenos, 25 lb bags of rice and 100 rolls of t.p. But hey, its just another day in the life, right?

Now you know how slow life is in rural Oklahoma.
For all anyone knows, you own a restraunt.

I bought at Sam's in California. There you had to be a member and to be a member you had to have a business license.

That's a lot of money being demolished. A combine cost twice to 3 times as much as a new car, if not more.

All righty! Because I am lazy and I don't want to clutter up the picture thread with our little bonfire... I'll just post the links here for whoever wants to see them.

First a map to give a little perspective to the location...the red star is our neighborhood, the blue box is the fire area and the red arrows are (kind of) the direction it burned. The red line is the unnamed side-road to Dad's place...there are several houses along that road.

Heading north on "N" st.
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h6...8/IMG_5566.jpg

Turning east on Elk towards Dad's.
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h6...8/IMG_5573.jpg

Getting closer to Dad's side road.
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h6...8/IMG_5574.jpg

Not looking good.
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h6...8/IMG_5579.jpg

Smoke is starting to block out the sun.
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h6...8/IMG_5585.jpg

Strange combo of smoke and clouds.
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h6...8/IMG_5593.jpg

Nothing to do yet, but watch and wait.

Empire Volunteer FD talking with the PD on scene.

OakRidge Volunteer FD with their Gamma Goat.
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h6...8/IMG_5609.jpg

They decided to set up a watering blockade for the trucks.
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h6...8/IMG_5612.jpg

Covered in smoke and soot, headed back into the fire...but still they wave.
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h6...8/IMG_5614.jpg

Truck from Station 2 races by.
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h6...8/IMG_5616.jpg

Fire has gotten too close to the road...moving everyone out...evacuating the nearby houses and we have been told to go "prepare". (Officer says "there is a wall of flames coming this way")
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h6...8/IMG_5626.jpg

One last shot before we head to the house and wet things down.
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h6...8/IMG_5630.jpg

Getting the Tractor out and the sprayer going.
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h6...8/IMG_5647.jpg

I'm guessing the heat from the fire caused these clouds to start swirling around...the wind is really picking up too.
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h6...8/IMG_5652.jpg

Looking to the east away from the fire...Yeah...OK... NO!
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h6...8/IMG_5655.jpg

Setting sun, smoke laying on the trees and my Dad making another round with the sprayer.
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h6...8/IMG_5663.jpg

I'll try to catch some pics tomorrow of how the area looks now, if I can...there is still a pretty decent ring of trees left blocking the area.

LadyRobyn,,,,,is "N" st the one that meets Elk st. at 5th ?

I was out past N on Chestnut yesterday late afternoon., but FD had the road blocked off.

OK everyone, here's how close LadyRobyn and Jimeez are from me. It's walking distance.

On the map, the star indicates LadyRobyns place, the next street down going east and west is Chestnut. One street to the right and just below Chestnut (the st, with no name) is my place.(5 doors below Chestnut) The green rectangle is the Fire department. I can see the front of it from my back porch.

MK
"N" St. crosses Chestnut where there is a church on the North/West corner and pasture on the North/east and south/west corners. There is the softball and soccer fields north about a 1/4 mile on the east side of the road.
Clear as mud ??
