The nest can go down as far as 10 feet under the surface and they would need to drill several holes and pump poison down into the nest. Big Job To Do!

That sounds like a nightmare. I dont think its a slab house, I wil find out. I can't really tell where they are coming in at, only that they appear in the kitchen. I guess it's possible they are coming in through the logs by the ceiling...since we live in a log home. Thanks for the info. We need to solve the problem because it is annoying and I hate spraying something to kill them in the kitchen.

If they're come in through the kitchen and if you do have a slab home, then your water pipes are more than likely under the slab as well. If this is the case, then the little buggers are using the water pipes as a super hi-way, ants need water like the rest of us. This may be your hole to the underword . And if it is you may want to try something a little less toxic, like "Sefin" dusting powder or "Roach Proof". Now don't get me wrong, I know you not talking about roaches, but the ants will be attracted to the citric and aboric acids in it and carry it back to the hive and maybe if your lucky, wipe out the whole batch. Sefin dusting powder will be carried and sold at any good hardware store.
If you find that they are using the water pipes as a hi-way, then get a can or "Great Stuff" and plug the hole with it, asap.

Yes I would. Those that left are only a small portion of whats left in the ground. If you have any friends that are farmers you ask them if they have any "Diasinon" (I think I spelled that right), The governments had it pulled from the from the stores shelves. Now only the licensed Agro framer allowed to buy it. Now thats some suff that will wipe out the ants for good. Just place it on the ground arond the foundation.
But the best advice one could give would be, just give your local (Orkin) a call, they are the best source of information of the local pest control. They'll know how to check your homes foundation, floor joices, walls, studs and all areas that may be used by the little buggers.
Good Luck on the bug hunt
