Hey Nomadicus! Welcome to the okie forum. I can't believe you hail from SE Oklahoma. You know nothing's changed in this state since you left!

I'm not really from OK. Just got to visit for a day as a teen back then with an aunt. Closest thing I've had to OK is a few years in N MO. I have a son in Colorado Springs and would like to be with in a days drive. To cold there for me and I think OK would be a nice place to be.

OK is nothing like N MO. My brother, who still lives in St Lousy, umm.. St Louis, said it was 16 there last night and colder further north. In fact, it was warmer where I used to live in AK than it was here this AM - 39 vs 34. Got pretty nice here this afternoon, though. All sunny and warmish.

I need to pick a few cities and bookmark their weather forecasts. So much to consider when you expect it to be your last move and you want it right. Finding a place that is not to hot in summer and not to cold in winter is not easy for an old reptile like me.

Well, you can always stay indoors like we do during the hottest part of summer and the frigid month of winter.

Well, it does get hot in the summer, thank heaven for AC! But I can't believe how many people ask me if I'm not cold walking around, when it's around 50 or barely below. In fact, the first place I lived after I left St Louis was in western WA, and there if it got up to 50 it was a hot day and everyone wore shorts under their winter coats. AK may be colder, for the most part, but it's also a lot less humid except along the coast, and it just doesn't feel cold. Even the winter I spent in Anchorage it was so dry that I had to supplement the dogs' food with plenty of oil, or their skin got flaky.

I could hibernate in OK as long as they don't take CD away from me and don't mind me raising my own chickens.

We raise chickens........and just south of Tulsa, the garden spot of Oklahoma, the soil is deep and rich and black........west of Tulsa it is red and you tend to pick guitars instead of veggies...........

I like Merle but he doesn't feed me. Glad for the info. Need to make the trip. What about water there? Wells are they deep or can you have a shallow well?
