There just isn't television like that anymore, and it's a shame. That was really entertainment. Today's TV shows with competition, "real-life", and other horrors could never pass for entertainment to my way of thinking. I really haven't watched TV on a regular basis since the days of Carol Burnett, Sonny & Cher, and other really good entertainment shows.
I couldn't agree with you more. I think they had more fun making that show than just about anyone on television, ever. How can one not appreciate a good, warm-hearted laugh - it's almost the best feeling in the world.

I just watched the elephant story clip and enjoyed every single minute. Thanks colleen.

I just had to post one more. This is so funny! This is unedited, meaning it includes scenes that weren't shown on tv, but the live audience did get to enjoy..

There's an old joke that says a highbrow is someone who can hear the William Tell Overture and not think of the Lone Ranger. Gone With The Wind was on earlier this week and when Scarlett asked Mammy to take those curtains down and make a gown - well, how can you not think of Carol Burnett!!

Default save our country and our money

I hope this catches on, and I hope people will pass it around and help not only save our US jobs and ease unemployment, but also keep more of our dollars in our pockets instead of the big companies.
we all have been hearing about recession, we are tired of paying over 3 bucks for gas, etc. in our area, they just did a report on news sayen cost of gas, rise in food prices(13%food, 21%milk) and rise in electric, the average family here will pay 2000 more this year then they did for exact same last year, that equals to about 150 more a month!! more up north due to overall higher cost for stuff and heating cost. unemployment is on the rise, more and more jobs sent overseas, with products/services being done at fraction of wages here, costing americans job after job, yet we still pay same price for those products/services either way, and companies making huge profits. as Americans, we need to say enough is enough!! I thought about this all night after seeing someone here say bread might be $5 loaf this year..its crazy. but we can do something about it.
After Katrina, we didnt conserve gas, so companies rasied prices, we paid it, showing them we would pay it, and 3 yrs later, we are still paying it, and companies are making record profits!!! we dont hit back, and we need to!! I understand people want better things, bigger homes, etc etc, but what we dont htink about is how the big companies feed off us wanting all that, our pockets shrink, and theirs get bigger. Id like to get folks involved in tryen to turn it around. back in depression days, it didnt matter what ya earned, if gas and milk was in short supply, we ALL got rationed, to be fair to all, but not today, utlitiy prices soar because the millionairs (can we recall power outsages in CA?) mansions didnt conseve let alone go out.they use it all up and us little people pay the bill in long run.
same with gas, if everyone in america stayed home one day a week, lets say a saturday, and spent time as a family, do you realize how hard that would hit the oil companies? not to mention save gas, hence, force price down!!! same with electric, if every home did a green day, meaning cut our energy use, we would not only save energy, save our dollars, but maybe bring cost back down!! you dont have to be drastic, say, make energy for tv and light available in living room, spend spend time as a family, kids will start to use their imaginations again verses stuck on video games, or they would rediscover a book!! use electric in kitchen, but as a fmaily, find ways to conserve it on green day. each month, see what just those changes do to your bill!!and again, if everyone nation wide did it, prices would go down due to more supply, less demand.
your car...how many live withen 2 miles of a store, park, work? if everyone walked, rode a bike, skated to these areas...we would save a lot of gas, force prices back down, not to mention...save polution, and best of all....work off our evergrowing butts!!! and as a family, think of the fun you will have plus instill value.
I ask each of you to by american, save fuel/energy, etc, work together to save our country, our jobs and our money. bring forth your own ideas and pass it along, lets take back whats ours and get back to basics, lets show all those countries that say we cant do it, and lets show them we can! my next post will list things we have started, and i look forward to hearing others and their tips!!! come on america!!!!

Lightbulb doing our part!

today, we made a choice to save our country and money!!
I gave kids each a job, they ahd to walk thru house and find 20 things NOT made in america, and then find 10 things that ARE made in america, they soon found out why one list was longer then other, they cant find as much made in america. They know that things not made here causes loss of jobs, someone they might know lost their job due to outsourcing, yet products cost more.
we also had them list ways they thought we could save gas, fuel, etc, and they are haven a good time with this.
we are also starten green day, one day right now, that electric is not allowed in most of house, we will allow inliving room, to watch tv as a family, or play games, etc, and in kitchen, but withen reason, they are even finding ways to conserve that to. we are using lanterns or candles if need to be in their room for that one day. we will work up to a few days out of week for this, and are anxious not only to see our bill shrink without hardship really, but we realized as a family, we need to be closer, like most families now days, everyone is so disconnected.
we look hope our small efforts will pay off with prices coming down, and more money inour pocktes verses the big companies.
and if we get a tax rebate this year, we will not spend it, we will pay off abill or save it, it might give companies a boost in profits, but no morelong term jobs, and the people need it more then nearest walmart. good day to all, and i hope more join in!!

There was a story some years back about a family that had switched to solar power and had banks of storage batteries set up. They had just enough for essentials, like cooking. When the kids complained about not being able to watch TV, dad set up a battery connected to a stationary bike. If they pedalled enough to charge the battery, or kept pedalling hard enough while the show they wanted was on, they could watch it. He said it was amazing, how many shows they 'had' to see, suddenly became not so important, after all. Especially when the kids had to do all their chores before they could start pedalling. Riding horses and swimming in the creek was suddenly a lot more attractive.

When there were some special shows they all wanted to watch, everyone contributed pedal power, including mom and dad, and they watched as a family.

I love this idea, It would get the kids off their backsides and outside in the sun and fresh air wouldn't it. These days all kids do is tell mom and dad "I want this or I want that" and the parents run right out and buy it for them.
Then the parents wonder way their kids turned out the way they did, like not leaving home until they're 30 years old if ever at all. Or, having babies they can't afford and the grandparents end up raising kids all over again instead of enjoying their lives they worked so hard for.

Okay, I'm off my soapbox now .
