We're a nation of web-developers and business analysts.

I hate to tell you what we're becoming. We've become so lazy and so dependent on others, from the government to cheap labor in other countries, that I really belive if we don't turn things around it may be our downfall. I keep thinking of our country in the last 40 years or so like the son who inherits a ton of money from mom and dad and becomes so lazy, having others do all his work for him while he "parties". I know that's not the majority of the people in this great country, but there are too many who are in fact that way. Let somebody else do it/worry about it/solve it. Just give me my Walmart prices and leave me alone. (Sorry, here I go again.)

Default Great photos!!

Those are great photos Peggy. Thanks for sharing with us. I had no idea what goes on for a large pecan harvest. I can tell you my hubby would love tinkering with those propane canons since he was in an Army artillery unit many yrs ago! Did you mention how many acres you harvest? We do love pecans.....thankyou!

I agree with many of these previous posters. I think we need to get back to basics espcecially with our food. I grew up on homegrown & canned veggies & meat from the local butcher. That's just my $.02.

Guys seem to love things that make loud noises.

We have about 500 trees, we think.

When I was growing up, we had a lot less selection in foods, but the quality was better. Even though we lived in town, my parents would take us out to orchards and farms and we would pick apples, pears, strawberries etc., then bring them home and can them.

We have various orchards around here and the farmer's market in the summer/fall where you can get locally grown foods too. Yes, growing up we had less choices, but they were "real" food, not manufactured, processed, ground, mashed, preserved, packaged, shipped, shelved and then eaten. We have become a nation that wants it now, wants it fast and wants it cheap. We will pay the price -- somewhere down the road.

Hi Peggy,

Do you have Cape Fear pecans ? Have you export any pecans into China market ? As you know there is a big demand in China for American pecans.

I know this is an older thread, but I was wondering when is pecan "season"? I am dying for some Oklahoma pecan pie and I can't wait to get there to make it. I am always in charge of pies for the holidays.

Thanks!
