Oklahoma Pecan Harvest Pictures
I thought some of my fellow aggie Americans might like to see some harvest pics.
Pecans on the tree in September. Many of the clusters have 5 pecans, and that is really good.
We set up scarecrows and propane cannons to keep the crows away.
In November, we got started. First we have to clean up all the sticks and branches under the trees. I am on the clean-up-sticks crew.
Put the shaker on the back of the tractor and go out and shake the trees. In this picture the light dots are all the pecans falling down. And more sticks fall down, GRRR. You don't want to stand under the tree while it is getting shaken.

Whole lotta shakin' goin' on!
Next step is to pull the sweeper around under the trees.
The sweeper picks up the pecans and blows out the dust and leaves
Then dump the pecans from the hopper into the trailer.

Pecans in the trailer. This is a dump trailer so the pecans will be unloaded through the little door on the far end.
Really scary scarecrow.
The pecans are unloaded into the bucket of the Bobcat. Inside the barn, the pecans go from the bucket to the bin of the cleaner. The bin has the wood around it.
The the pecans go up a conveyor belt to the fan.
The fan blows out everything under a certain weight.
The pecans come out on a conveyor belt where the crew picks out the sticks, rocks, and bad pecans.

Some of the hands are always on break.
I work on the conveyor belt too. At the end of the day, does your back hurt! It takes a lot of concentration.
The pecans go into the huge sacks that should hold about 2000 pounds of pecans.
Sacks waiting to be shipped. 18 sacks will make a load. Rain, ice and snow, go away.
