Default Photos From the Ice Storm In Tulsa

Hey folks,

The term "ice storm" never had much relevancy in my life until March 1990 when an ice storm of major proportions hit upstate NY.....started on a Sunday evening and I can still render up the sounds of my crashing cherry trees, on the verge of blooming, going down one by one.....the devastation was heart wrenching and brought home how quick Mother Nature can turn a beautiful tree-swept area to it's knees....

But from it came some gorgeous renewal as the years have passed by so life does go on

My thoughts are with those who have been hit the hardest for I know your pain

Those next to the last pictures of the bent trees are almost pretty, if it wasn't so sad.

There is beauty in those pictures. But, being a native Californian, it does look a bit COLD there..:>) Can I ask a stupid question??? What happens to your pipes in that kind of cold?

Well, if your power is out you might have a problem. My daughter is letting her faucets drip a thin stream of water to keep her pipes from freezing.

Smart girl your daughter! I do the same thing anytime it drops below freezing.

If you take precautions they will usually be OK Right now my outside faucets are wrapped in old socks and duct tape! (hey I'm frugal and it works! )

The cold here is generally different from Ca. Much dryer so it doesn't feel the same. When everything is iced up and the sun comes out, it reflects off the ice and feels kinda toasty. In January this year I wound up outside in shirt-sleeves chipping ice off the car and driveway! (and I am an EX-Central-Cali girl! )

This storm IS different though... very wet and nasty. Fog and freezing temps do NOT go together.

You're welcome but I realized the folks hit the hardest can't read my post as I'm sure their electricity is still out.......we were without electrical for well over a week in some areas that year and generators were at a premium!

And now you all are facing another hit this weekend which, unfortunately, is tearing right up the middle of the nation and here in NY, we're looking at a Nor'Easter with 2 feet of snow expected!!!!!!!!!

Too much too soon this season!
