My wife and I were both raised Catholic, but left that denomination BECAUSE there was very little bible taught in the church...

Here in Northern NH, we can't find a good church because at one, there is a pastor who drives a Bentley, and the other, the pastor drives 2 classic hot rods... Call me what you like, but I believe the money could have been better spent...

We're hoping to find greener pastures in OK.

I was raised Catholic, both my kids went to Catholic school for a while, and made all their sacraments, but when the sex abuse scandal broke and then continued on I just became disillusioned. I was even teaching CCD at the church, and emphasized the Bible quite a bit, even though the curriculum didn't call for it.

We'll be looking for a church to join when we move to OK. Whatever strikes our fancy, and we feel welcome at. The denomination isn't important.

I was raised Catholic too, and I became disillusioned long ago.

I am surprised that so many people react so negatively to the religious attitudes in Oklahoma. It is true that there are religious signs and symbols everywhere, and that people will speak to you about their beliefs and invite you to their church. I just can't see that anyone is being hurt. You won't be forcibly dragged into a church or anything.

I like to see where the preacher lives and what kind of car is in the driveway. I don't think they should live in poverty, but they shouldn't IMO be living on a standard much higher than their congregation.

Peggy, this is the "sophisticated" northeast, where people would rather see you take your clothes off in public than discuss religion.

Ya, don't you just love hearing them use the term "progressive" all of the time like those of us that don't buy into their mantra are "regressive" or something?

You will moving to the bible belt and there's churches on every corner. You will not have any problems finding something that's biblical..At least I hope not!

Here in California, Moderator cut: a No,Nohas taken the churches hostage. We left our church, Church of the Nazarene, because the pastor was over the top with Warren and his watered down gospel. Week after week the pastor's sermons became more like pep talks than good biblical sermons. I don't want to listen to sermons on stress, gambling, debt, raising kids, fishing, etc...I need meat!
Our last Sunday there was when the pastor made the comment, "we as a church, can no longer preach about being "washed in the blood" as what are seekers going to know about that!" I looked at my hubby and knew, this is it!

I got to talk to the pastor 3 weeks later and told him what I thought...I hit him hard and fast...I told him he was "purchased with that blood" and he better preach on it...I told him other things, but I will spare you all the drama..He got mad and hung up on me...

I want to find a church where the pastor preaches from the bible and not follow every new age guru that comes along. It's not to say that Moderator cut: names not allowed is wrong on all accounts, but one only needs to read some of his comments in the press to realize that something is amiss in his doctrine. His church was even having a Hollywood Glitz and Gam night and encouraged the singles to come dressed as their favorite celebrity...UGH...

I hope not ot offend anyone with my feelings...It's just me and my thoughts. But, I hope Oklahoma will provide a church for me that will be biblical and a place for us to serve..

My In-laws go to the big baptist church in Piedmont and just love it. Once we get there, that's probably where we'll attend. It will be nice to be with family each Sunday..
