When I am not having problems, it show no connectivity problems, of course. Not sure what it will tell me when the red light is blinking on my DSL. I have no idea what causes that to happen. I can walk up to the computer after not using it for several hours and the red light on the DSL is blinking like mad. And of course no internet connection. Lay that receiver down, bingo, I have internet and no more lights. Hang up phone and the DSL is blinking red and gone again.
btw - I have Pentium 4, 2260 MHZ, 67.36 gigabytes of freespace. Nothing that should cause problems.

Spinwheel, I'm sorry. I don't often refer to the handset as the "receiver."
I think the problem you may be having is that you don't have the filters connected at the phone jack (in the wall). DSL setups often come with these little filters that plug into the wall, and then your telephone line plugs into the filter. Have you checked that? Let me know and get back. I think that your problem is noise and the filters are not installed.

My DSL was installed by a computer technician who installs these every day. I do have filters on every phone and computer connection. So I feel like it was installed correctly and I have checked to see that they were installed tightly and had not loosened. I know these filters can go bad but it perplexes me that this only happens every few months and then it is several days at a time, and nearly the same time of day.

Technically, if you're talking about the phone handset, it is a TRANSCEIVER, since it transmits and receives. I haven't heard the phone called a receiver in 30 years. I'm accustomed to just saying "the phone" or "the handset."
So THERE! Mr. Smartypants!

Interesting that whenever you pick up the phone and get a dial-tone it is okay though. Do you have one of these plugged into the wall, and your phone/DSL connected to it?

I have ones supplied by AT&T. They were supplied with my modem. They are rectangular.

If they are installed, then it shouldn't matter. If I were you, I would complain like HE-double toothpicks to AT&T. This is an interference problem of some sort and I wouldn't put up with it. I had DSL as well, and it was "iffy" to say the least. Very temperamental and there were some days that it just wouldn't perform up to spec. I am now on a cable modem and couldn't be happier. I wish I were able to help you more. Good luck; perhaps someone else on here can help you, or you could go to the city-data tech forum (below) - you'll have a nationwide audience of helpful people.

AT&T does not care. And I am far from the civilized world, I guess because I can not change my phone service. I am thinking about wireless but do not have any idea of the cost. I have raised He double toothpicks over this and all I get is transferred to another techie who doesn't have the faintest idea what is happening. If it happened more often, it would be horrible but since I can continue doing whatever, I just can't use the phone, I guess I will put up with it. I thought perhaps someone else may have had the same problem. Thanks for trying.

That is a sad statement about customer no-service these days when you pay for a service, it doesn't work as advertised, and you are relegated to asking for help from anyone you can find. You can get attention, if you raise enough stink; but you have to do it in the right manner. Email their marketing department and tell them that you are about to raise cain if you don't get some attention. Tell little white lies like you work for a competitor or something and will use this as fuel for the fire.
But please do check out that tech forum I posted. It's for all of city-data, not just Oklahoma - and there are some very intelligent and helpful people there who may have the exact problem as you.
