THANKS!

When I talk to Synopsis about this stuff,
it sounds more like alphabet soup.
(But the info we pass is a bit more in depth.
DHCP, I.P, N.I.C., D.N.S., ISP, plus the IT slang in between...)

And YES, even on a MAC you need protection these days!
Anti-Virus AND firewall!
Good operating habits never hurt either!
(But I KNOW you don't go to all those EVIL places Seabee goes!)
(I can get away with that for now... His machine's out being "cleaned up".
(I'm SO mean!)

About a year after I get relocated,
I'm going to create the "Okie Linux Thread"
And OK will RULE the world...
(Yeah... Right!)
Alright now CG, I read what you said about me, now your gonna get-it. LOL.
Ya know the sad part about this is, I sent two pics to a family member this morning and when they opened it up there was a bunch of porno on it. And the really pi##es me off, because I don't look at the trash. My main sites are CDF, Rocklers wood working supplies, Military.com, Home Depot and a few E-mails from family members. Now I have cracked down on a couple of family members for sending me forwards all the time, "that I won't open, Now". Do you think that garbage got into our system threw the forwards? And if so, How can I get it out of my PC so I can send pics without that crap being attached to it?

OOOOOOOOhhhhh....
I'd quake in my boots... If I was wearing boots...
You'll have to settle for me quaking in my slippers.

You most likely picked it up via an e-mail attachment.
You need to stay away from that stuff.
You've basically lost control of your machine at this point.

If you can't get it fixed properly there, you may just
want to re-install and then protect it properly before you
take it back on-line.

At the end of the articles I posted here,
there are recommendations and links for excellent
(and free) anti-virus, firewall and malware utilities
that will help keep your machine clean next time around.

Ummm... let's hold off awhile on those pics we discussed OK??

Something else to consider...

Are you using Web-based email only or do you get your email through a program like Outlook Express or Incredimail?

Outlook express is the #2 "pre-loaded, only leads to trouble" thing I uninstall after getting a new comp. (McAfee is #1 )

Comp based email programs automatically 'pull' email into your comp, and tend to open attachments that are sometimes buried in the message without your permission or knowledge.

Dumping those programs and staying with Web based email will solve a LOT of headaches. If you have MSN as your provider go directly to that page and log-in to see your email... Same for Yahoo or any other provider... you just go directly to their main page and check your email there. Nothing gets downloaded into your comp unless you choose.

You can also skip your ISP email and sign up for hotmail or gmail... both free, reliable and easy to use. (Be sure to send everyone your new address if you switch)

We have used web based email exclusively for several years (along with AVG and Ad-Aware) and haven't picked up a serious virus since we dumped the Outlook!
I've had the same hotmail addy since 1999 despite switching ISPs SEVERAL times...

You will have to take the extra step of logging-in and actively checking your email instead of your comp doing it for you... but you might avoid the extra steps of having to pay someone to clean up your comp after it steps in cyber-poo without your knowledge... (not to mention the apology emails to your family and friends... )

I had nothing but trouble with Outlook Express, that's when I had dial-up with Gateway.

Well the PC techies dumped it out again and re-installed the MSN program then he tested several times by e-mailing to his own PC and bjb123 office PC, so far so good. He also got rid of the old virus protection system and put Avast on it. So we should be set to go. Oh, and he said that the porn garbage had to have been picked up in their PC and not ours sending it to them. He also told me that I should let the know to get theirs checked out.

Yes, it's significantly more secure than Outlook.
Works on Windows, Linux & MAC.
