Hey folks,
This is the first time I've been able to get down here and fire up the machine. Been incapacitated since Tuesday. (Now I'm only semi-incapacitated.) ![]() Had my first trip to the doctor in over 20 years and my first trip to the hospital EVER. Had the cr*p scared out of me, but it appears that I'm going to live. Last night was the first time I got more than 1 consecutive hour of sleep, so I'm almost feeling human today. Besides, if I stayed down another minute I think I'd go nuts! ![]() Wanna hear a good one? At some point in a fevered delirium a couple of nights ago, I dreamed I was reading the forum. This is the first time I've ever been away from my machine this long. Jessaka: Instead of doing a System Restore, when the machine boots up, you should get an option like "Press F-10" (or something like that depending on the machine. If you get it right, you'll be given the option to completely reinstall Vista. Make sure you pick the option that will do a format. (If you have anything on the machine that you care about, back it up to CD before doing this, because it will restore your machine to brand new condition.) If you have any problems after that, it's very likely that you have a failing component causing your BSOD. If that appears to be the case, send it back to Dell. They HAVE to fix it for free if it's under warranty. Synopsis: I should be good to go Sunday, (Maybe even today, but it's too early to tell. I haven't been vertical for more than an hour since Christmas, but I'm a stubborn Canadian, so who knows. )If you want to give PCLOS a shot, I think I'm game. I will warn you however, once we start, we can't stop until it's completely finished or you'll end up with a trashed system. Let me know. I missed you guys, hope everyone is doing OK. (Pun intended.) ![]() |

Are you okay? What happened CG? Did you catch pneumonia or something? Get well. It's good to have you back; we were all wondering where you were.

CG, so happy to see you booted up and running again.
We were afraid some ticks and chiggers got into your hard drive and caused your own BSOD. Hope not. Welcome back. We missed ya. No more climbing on the roof either. Let the gutters be dammed. |

I used MSDOS for QBasic, but that was on Windows 98

I called Dell, and they claimed it wasn't a Vista problem but a hard drive problem, according to the ox numbers i gave them. They gave me the option of fixing it or getting a new computer, so I am getting a new computer, but now it has only a 7 month guarentee. Of course my computer was made in China.
I want to know what was wrong too CG? glad that you are better. |

I figured it was most likely a hardware problem. Bad drives are notorious for BSODs. They should have been able to figure that out the FIRST time you read the screen to them. When are you expecting the new machine? |

Roofs aren't a problem. I've been on them since I was 11. ![]() Computers aren't a problem either. They fear me and I make them behave! ![]() So... How are you doing over there with your machine? |

Jessika:
Sorry the "geeks" couldn't help,(speaking for myself of course), but maybe it was best to get a new one. or maybe not, I received a small catalog from Dell(you may have too) and I see computers, with Vista and wide screens, for under $400.00, there's no warranty mentioned of course. I paid over $1200.00 for mine, but I built it and added features to it. You may not know it, but they were having problems with Vista before it was even on the market, but that's usually the way it is with everything. I've done some checking around and found some news and info, on Vista(including Lap Tops) that may be handy for you and your daughter for future reference. This tells you why they have , low or 0 "warranties". http://www.bestvistadownloads.com/fo...ntee-vt63.html This one tells you why Vista drains Lap Top batteries and more, http://www.bestvistadownloads.com/fo...es-vt100.html? You can find pretty much everything here. You might want to put a "short cut" to this on your desk top. |
