Anyone making any New Years resolutions?
I usually don't, but I have to lose some weight. Anyone else want to try to lose weight? I don't want to say the "D" word because that would throw me into a panic. So, I've been saying I am going to be healthier. Also, I am going to get get home organized. I've let that get so out of hand!
If anyone has some good tips to share on either of these problems, I sure would appreciate it. I crave sweets. A lot. Has anyone conquered this annoying issue?

Yea for us! Are you going to be more physical? Eat less, or better? I'm going to tame this craving for sweets that I have. I don't know how yet tho.

I have put on 30 lbs during the last 6 months. Mainly due to staying home when I normally leave the house to work.
I also eat when stressed out, then sleep. And those two together make for a very fat boy.
Today I walked before going to church, actually I chased 5 horses out of my pasture and ended up having a low blood sugar reaction. I took my insulin then exercised without having a breakfast. So, I almost fell out trying to get back to the house.
When I eat "normal" I don't require as much insulin, and if I excercise, the exercise makes the insulin work better.
I REALLY REALLY need to lose weight. I outgrew all my work pants!! I may have to change my name to redlard.

For me, it's just going back to being as physically active as I was in previous years jess. For the past 9 months, I have "gel'd" way too much. I'm accustomed to working outside and using that as my exercise regimen.

I want in on that pact, too. I never have really been into new year's resolutions, but I've put on an extra 50 pounds over the last 4 years, and this year I'm making a new year's resolution to get back in shape and be 'fit and fabulous and forty'. I've been reading this AWESOME book by Prevention, called THE SUGAR SOLUTION, and it talks about the low glycemic index, and it's really informative and good. I'm going to follow it (it's pretty simple -- only consume complex carbs-- nuts, fruits, vegetables, whole grains; proteins, and lowfat dairy) and do 30 minutes of exercise a day (walking, biking, dancing, whatever), and drink 10 glasses of water a day. They recommend writing down everything you eat, and say it helps a person stick to a better way of eating. Cutting out sugar (and white foods, pretty much) will curb your cravings, Jess. Give it a week, and you'll be able to overcome it. Here's to getting healthy in 2008, Jess, Synopsis and Redbird! AND everyone else who reads this post and wants to get healthy, too!!

Yea steph! We'll all jump on this train together. It's funny that you mention THE SUGAR SOLUTION because it sounds like what I was going to try also. I just read an article in a health magazine that really made me see that simple carbs are the problem. I've always heard if you eat like a diabetic is supposed to eat, you'll lose weight and be healthy. Redbird, I'm so sorry to hear that you are diabetic. With the amount of sweets I eat, I'm surprised that I'm not. I hope you are doing well with that.
I think I need to lose more weight than all of you. I quit smoking for over 2 years, and gained 48 lbs. Around the same time, I started taking (medically prescribed) steroids and gained 53 lbs. Losing that much weight alone scares me, plus, I started smoking again a few months ago, so I'm mad about that too! Gosh, I'm a mess!

Anyone going to set a goal? Like 10, 20, or 50 lbs????
HUH???? Talk is cheap. C'mon, who's gonna put it out there? Who's gonna be the the big loser here?

redbird, they say to set small goals, if you do set them. What do you think will be a good idea? Should we all post on the same thread? Oops, I just remembered there is a forum for diet & exercise, right? I think that you can keep a blog there? I'm going to look.
