Cantaloupe would be better with a juicer. That's the beauty of having a juicer (mine is the Juiceman, Jr -- it's made by Salton). You can actually juice some things that can't be consumed edibly. It would be a great complement to making your smoothies. For example, you can juice some oranges or chunks of pineapple and drink as is, or mix them with a smoothie if you like.

Now, be warned. If you get a juicer, you need to read the instructions before using certain fruits and vegetables. And you can't juice a banana. And if you get a juicer ---- and there's lots of them out there --- I know that whichever one you choose will be the best investment you can make for your diet, your immune system, and, most of all, your life.

I'm considering getting one. Any recommendations you have would be much appreciated case.

Please do karibear. It's not that I don't believe you, but I just find it hard to believe that woman could be considered attractive by any stretch of the imagination.

I think that was in Redbook. It seems like everything I eat is bad for you. I'm just going to use my own common sense from now on. Next month, I'll probably read that grapefruit is the best thing in the world for you! I've even found discrepancies like that in the same book!

How are you liking "1000 Splendid Suns"?
I think the common sense method is the best. Everything is bad for you it seems, if you read all the different articles. Those smoothies sound good. Some yogurts are loaded with sugar, but lately I get the low fat low sugar cartons. Sometimes I freeze them so they are like ice cream.

I am about 1/3 through 1000 Splendid Suns. I like it, even though it is a sad story. The Kite Flyer was sad too.

An interesting website that provides ways of ordering a wide variety of cookbooks. Some may think, why do I need another cookbook? But, these are pretty good, I have to admit.

Let me know if it doesn't show up. I sent on the final page, with the pix. If they don't make it, I'll do it again the way I got it, but there are a lot of layers of anti-virus thingies to open that way.

Thanks kari. I'm not sure if I want to look. That one picture was a nightmare and I feel for that poor girl, even if she did do that to herself. She needs help, seriously.

I'd check the thrift shops first. Lots of people get them, then decide it's too much trouble/expense to use it. They are loud and they consume a lot of raw veggies, especially juicing carrots. I've gotten 3 that way and gave 2 of them to friends. Both are still using theirs, as am I. General use directions are available on the internet as well. I also use my blender and my nut chopper, scrunched nuts in oatmeal is great.

Thrift shops are great places to find whatever was 'in' last year. Espresso makers, French press coffe brewers, bread machines... and the old stand-by's that get replaced once in awhile, like crock pots. I love thrift shops - someone else's lack of interest = my gain.

Ditto kari. I will check the thrift shops. Thanks!

PS. The "model" photos are saddening.

This lady at my work was nibbling on carrots and we got to talking about diets. It seems everyone is on a diet this year.

Anyway, this guy comes strolling by and says, Did you know carrots are the worst thing you can eat if you are on a diet? Yep, they are full of carbs.

Then he strolls away.

That is what ~really~ irks me, it seems there is TOO MUCH INFORMATION out there!!! I am going to stick to eat less, exercise more, and SCREW THE EXPERTS!

whew. Sorry, had to vent.

I want a juicer now too. I have to have something that tastes good and I hate to prepare veggies, except fresh home grown tomatoes.
