kaiser permanente semi fast program. 1 modest meal a day, and 3 cans of slimfast, low carb.
took 3 months to lose it, at 1 - 4 lbs a week, slow but consistent. inc exercise, not a huge amount.
went from 196 to 175 (5 ft 9 in male) then maintain with 2 meals a day modest and 1 can slimfast and excercise dropped to 168 a good weight for me.
the results, my knees and ankles no longer hurt from fencing and a marked improvement in agility and speed. from the phycological angle i am motivated to stay fit because am around young people im 59 they are 19. soon i will start a long training program for my new job, again lots of physical demands a much younger crowd. opinion, i dont think could not have done kaiser semi fast diet while working in a high stress job.
ps on fasting and diets, as a young man overseas did the arnold ehret diet, works good but again, did not go to work, lots of 2 - 4 day fasts honey tea only which are ok, but then i got extreme which the diet does not recommend, longest fast i did was 11 days. got too thin. doing stuff like that now could hurt me.

Thank you Bunky. Good for you! I want to lose slowly. I'm happy with 1 lb. a week. It would take a long time, as much as I need to lose, but, thats ok. I have no problem with regular slim fast, but isn't the low carb kind called Optima? That one was harder for me to drink. It's been a long time since I've tried it though. I've never heard of the kaiser name for a diet. As for the fasting, I could not fast for 11 days. I don't even know if I could fast for 1 day! Thanks so much for sharing with us, and please be a regular visitor here.

The Keith Richards Diet?
I was on that from age 16 - 19 (my rock band days),
and I must admit I WAS a LOT healthier back then....
I'll have to try it again when I'm 60.
(Providing I get to see 60.)
It seems to work well for Keith.

I need to buy a treadmill or a stair climber...CHEAP! Any ideas on where to get one?
The verdict is in. I can't lose weight. Redbird crashes and burns. Not a pretty sight.
But I am willing to keep trying. I used slim fast once and eating at MickeyD's after slamming two slimfasts makes your stomach go whhUUUUMMPP!!
I will have to change my signon name to The Buffet Slayer, or Okie Diet Tried it and Failed, Chief Big Gut, Mr. Before on the Diet Poster, etc.

Try Ebay redbird.
stair climber, Exercise Fitness, Medical, Special Needs items on eBay.com
I have to get into an exercise regimen before summer gets here. I am NOT going to continue down the path that I've been on for two years now, which is next to none. Prior to that, I walked an average of 3 miles a day and ran about half of that. Then, when I started having this pinched nerve, I slacked off; first a little and then altogether. I'm now in a catch 22 - I can't exercise to much because of the nerve and being out of shape is making the nerve problem worse.
I guess I'll just have to put up with some pain and move forward.

Or you could try just not keeping anything edible in your house, and get someone else to buy your groceries and fix your meals. Or maybe that e-diet thing, where they tailor it to you and deliver it already prepared.

Truth is stranger than Fiction...
Let's play a little guessing game shall we??
We (the hubby and I) had the opportunity recently to undergo a free "Health Screening" as a part of his job. Just a simple blood draw. We gave them no other info other than our Name, Age, and Sex.
They tested for such things as Cholesterol (HDL & LDL), Glucose, CO2, Liver function, Thyroid function, Iron, Lipids, Amino Acids etc.
We share roughly the same diet. Mostly meat and potatoes... we eat what we want. Not the least bit healthy.
HE has a Strong family history of Diabetes and heart problems, he is an asthmatic, non-smoker, RARE drinker. Very active physically demanding job, early 50's and carrying some extra weight. (5'6" 180lbs)
SHE has almost no family history of diabetes, a minimal amount of family heart disease. Smoker for over 30 years, Moderate to heavy drinker for 23.
Fairly sedentary lifestyle, average weight. (5'9" 155lbs)
Now, which of these two would YOU guess to have the "Healthier" results??
Specifically the Cholesterol (HDL & LDL), Glucose, CO2, Liver function... not actual numbers, but who do you think would score better?
I'll let Y'all know what they found after you guess.

Oh yes you can! You just haven't found what "works" for you yet. We all eat differently and more food or less depending on the circumstances. (some people are *stress* eaters, some are *craving* "binge"ers etc.)
I try to focus on little things instead of denying myself the foods that I love.
THAT really makes me start stuffing myself! I eat what I want, but smaller or with one thing left out. Like a baked potato with sour cream OR butter but not both.
Having a Quarter pounder instead of a Double quarter pounder. etc. I quit drinking sweet tea and switched to water, and quit using creamer in my sweetened coffee.
Give yourself LOTS to drink with your meal and eat slowly... smaller bites and chew longer.
As silly as it sounds, keep moving even when you are sitting still. Bouncing a leg, wiggling your feet or hands, rocking in a rocking chair... Fidgeting burns calories and keeps your blood moving.
The little things add up... really! (And stop worrying so much, you eat more when you are worried. )
I have an activity for you when the weather is good...
Buy a tennis ball and go out to the nearest field with your Pup...
Throw the ball as FAR as you can!!
Now jog out into the field and bring it back to her...
Continue until she is tired of laughing at you.
Oh and those Slim Fast thingies NEVER work for me!
