I agree about the Oklahoma girls, I married one who was born in tishomingo but grew up in Durant!

I agree also not a lot of reason to vacation in Durant, I feel the same about okc, Tulsa, and Dallas for that matter. However if your looking for work it's a good place to go and with the casino and SEOSU has good performance options. Lake texoma isn't too bad for fishing and boating. It's not as mountainous as some other parts but is hilly compared to Dallas and okc in my book.

I admit okc and Tulsa offer me little draw compared to Dallas. It is tough having dual citizenship, but I manage to be close to family and where I grew up subject to no income tax by living in plano, north of Dallas.

Amazed to hear over 50 claimed to be in Durant the past two years. How would have guessed that many would come on down!

It is interesting how Durant is sort of in the Dallas scope of things. Probably the only city of any size that has it's "big city" in another state. When I lived in Poteau it was obviously very connected to NW Arkansas but OKC and Tulsa were still on the map as the bigger destinations. I suppose Guymon might be in Amarillo's sphere.

Durant has enough commerce with DFW area it's considered part of the extended SMSA, I believe that is the name for it. The North Dallas Tollway has a plan on the boards that extend it up to the Oklahoma border. Some texas leaders want US75 to Durant to be aan interstate highway, however not all do. Meanwhile US75 continues to be upgraded to three lanes progressively at pinch points between Dallas and Durant. Cardinal glass, located to Durant because of the work force in Durant and low cost of doing business in Oklahoma but also due to transportation connections to the DFW area. Dallas is a large part of what's during progress in Durant. It is somewhat unique for Oklahoma as you point out.

I'm love the southern hospitality and culture in the southern Oklahoma towns.
Then I sure hope the streets of Broken Bow look less run down than Idabel.

This might be a really stupid question, but does anyone know where Redrock Canyon is, I haven't been there since I was a child.

The furthest se of OK I've ever been to, outside of Mcalester, is Haileyville and Crowder, which is still north of Mac town but very pleasant folks there.
I've always wondered about Poteau , never been there but wouldn't mind cruising through there, just to see. I've been to many parts of Oklahoma and loved ask but the Lawton area, not impressed. But every state, including back in WI, there's gonna be a part you won't miss by not seeing.

Thanks. Yeah, I remember hiking there at the age of 10. Coincidentally, I ended up hiking roughly 10 miles at once, from what I've been told. That's definitely a place where an adventurer would not want to sit down!

I love SE Oklahoma, and get down there often. I drove through Durant last week on my way to Dallas, but I don't feel like that really counts. Like others have said, Durant doesn't really seem like rest of SE Oklahoma, but I also could see where I could be called the gateway of SE Oklahoma.

I found very small town on my way to Broken Bow last year, I can't remember the name of it but somebody had gone in and fixed up a couple of the old buildings. The town couldn't of been more than 100 people. This town was not on any main roads, and I think it was pretty close to the Glover river. This place was very picturesque, I have never seen anything like it in Oklahoma. I Took some pictures when I was there, I will look and see if I can find them.
