Default Oklahoma Water

How do you rate the water quality in your town:
a. hard, b. soft, or c. in between.

Can you drink the water straight from the tap or do you use:
a. water softner, b. reverse osmosis, c. magnets, d. fawcet filters, or e. other.

How would you rate the taste of your tap water: a. great, b. good, c. fair, or d. bad

Do you feel that the oil and natural gas drilling has or will have an effect on the quality of your drinking water?

How much do you generally pay for public water service?

What is the average cost of managing your own water well?

I ask these questions because I do have an interest in moving to Oklahoma and I am leaning more towards Duncan and Fort Cobb.

The water quality here in Arizona is extra hard, so hard that it clogs up the soil and rots the roots of potted plants. Their ain't nothing worse than seeing a plant wearing a coat of calsium deposit on its stems and leaves.

Thanks in advance for your answers.

Here in Tahlequah we have Goldilocks water. It is good, not too hard, not too soft, taste great, but it has floride in it. I need to get a water filter for the sink.

Hiya Trinaz, Haven't found that Big Toe of yours in any of my flower beds yet.

We live in Duncan and have City Water... It is somewhat Hard but nothing like you described. It doesn't 'suds up' as well as I would like, and I do have to deal with mineral deposits more than I had to in CA. ... but still nothing drastic.

We don't use any filters, but I don't drink it straight from the tap either. Although I KNOW it is quite safe (it is tested daily) I don't care for the chlorine taste. I use tap for cooking, and it is fine for mixing with instant powders (kool-aid etc) but I get bottled water for drinking.

Cost is going to vary quite a bit depending on how often (or if) you water your lawns and plants. We are a two person household now and ours runs around $15-$30 a month... but I do VERY little outdoor watering. Most of my plants are well established and need very little care. We've had enough rain that our lawn stays green throughout the summer without using the sprinkler. (April will be 4 years here)

I know that some of the larger (nicer ) houses in town that have proper landscaping pay several hundred a month.

Jessaka,

I would like some of that goldilocks water. Your lucky.

LadyRobyn,

My toe is buried deep beneath the red earth and wrapped with an electric blanket to keep it warm and from getting frost bite. When the peanuts begin to sprout so will my toe.

Darn, I was hoping Duncan would have great tasting water. Oh well, small amounts of mineral deposits can be dealt with and a breta water fawcet filter could take care of the chlorine taste, I think.

Thanks to both of you ladies for your response.

Water in Oklahoma varies tremendously. Down around Sulpher it is pretty rank. Western OK, around kingfisher and south of Enid it is hard. Tulsa area is all lake water from Hudson, Spavinaw, Oolagah, etc and as such is pretty good and soft. I live in Pawnee County and my well is pretty soft and sweet, but some of my neighbors have sulpher in theirs.

im trying to get a fix on utilities in anticipation of our move soon. here in nj i pay a monthly gas and electric (one bill); a quarterly water bill; a semi-annual sewer bill, direct tv bill, cell phones and landline phone (with DSL added). what sort of utilities (and average bills) can i expect in mustang?

Growing up in Gerty our well water was the BEST. It was so good I wish I could have bottled that water up and still be drinking it today. It was also cool coming out of that well in the summer. I've never tasted better water in my whole life. I know, I know, childhood memories can be distorted but my older relatives all say the same thing to this day.

I really prefer well water. Sometimes it can have a lot of minerals in it but that makes it taste good. I kind of like the sulphur water, but I don't know if I would want it all the time.

Our water here now is lake water. It is okay as far as not being hard, but I don't like the taste. If I am cooking, I use bottled water. My DH says it is all in my imagination about our water having a taste.

Here in OK, all the bills are monthly. Electric and gas are separate. In cities, the water and trash bills are combined in one bill.
