Be sure to put us down as a local reference on both of your resumes Colleen. That will show some connection to Oklahoma.
For anyone looking for work in the OKC area, temp work is really a good way to get into an established company. I got a good job through Accel.
Be sure to apply to Chesapeake and Devon for IT or financial work. Dell is good too, and Loves. Midfirst Bank would be good for someone with an MBA.

All of you, I want to thank you for all the information and advice once again. I have few friends who were OU boys and they always told me how nice and respectful people from OK were. I can see what they mean and it shows pretty clearly. I can't wait to be part of a good community and such a great state. I also can't wait to be closer to family and friends.
As far as parts of the state we're looking at, we're looking at Norman, Noble, Tuttle, Blanchard, Yukon, Mustang, and maybe Edmond. I wonder about Blanchard and how much development is going on out there. I don't want to get in the same situation we had here in CA where we bought into a development and now it's just ridiculous. We went from nice open fields to mini malls, houses, and buildings everywhere. I like Norman because of OU and have always been a Sooner fan - even going back to Brian Bosworth and Jamelle Holieway (wearing a fir coat of course). In fact, I was set to go there with my buddies, but I stayed home to finish school. I thought if I went with them, I might not ever graduate. Anyway, any info on living areas would be helpful too.

My family is relocating to OK at the end of February. We will close on the house we bought in Mustang tomorrow. We found Mustang to be really nice. It was one of the places Peggy recommended to us. It's a small town (16,000), but has a lot in the way of conveniences, restaurants, supermarkets, shopping. But -- it's not overrun with huge malls. There are a lot of housing developments, though. We bought a house in an older development, but on the main road, not really in the development itself. We liked Yukon, also, but Mustang was really our favorite. Good luck with your search!

Colleen, congratulations on the house. We also found Mustang to be nice. 16k would be much appreciated. We currently live in a city of about 200k and it's getting worse. I suppose there's developments everywhere, but living in a smaller town would make a difference. Good luck to you and your family. Who knows, maybe we'll be neighbors and friends.

That was a really fast closing, Colleen. You will soon be an Okie!
Techienomad, I have had the experience of being swallowed up by the city several times and I hate it. I don't have a crystal ball or anything, but I think maybe OKC metro's recent growth spurt may be about played out because of the situation with the economy and housing across the country.

You too huh?
I just moved to OK. from CA. last summer.
Was the situation Development, redevelopment or both?
The people are wonderful and so helpful here. At times I got paranoid because I for got that I was no longer in California. But I got over that fast.
I live So, of Oklahoma City. They keep Ok. clean, (spotless compared to Ca.
if you know what I mean.)
The jobs are here, and IT jobs are plentiful.

Folks, an update on the situation - I received a few calls and emails today regarding employment. Looks like I'll be flying out the next month or so for some interviews. It figures, I go for weeks without a peep and when I put this post, it all turns around.
Mkfarnam - hey I know what you mean. Ca has seen its glory days, but things have started down the dark path. I don't want to talk about Ca because I've had enough. I look forward to better schools for the kids and friendly people.

Thought y'all would be interested in this. DH e-mailed his resume to a company in OKC yesterday morning, and an hour later they called him. After an extensive phone interview they wanted him to come down for an interview. I made his plane reservation for Monday and he will meet with them Tuesday. The job sounds promising. I guess all you IT people can be encouraged. It looks like there is plenty of work out there for IT people. They told him they hadn't seen too many good people.
