I realize that you locals get pretty used to tornadoes after a while...
But what happens when the sirens go off and Dad's at work,
Mom's shopping, the kids are at school etc?
Or if it's 3am and everyone's asleep?

Is that something you all get used to after a while?
I suppose I could, but...
And NO, it wouldn't stop me from living in OK,
but I'm curious as to the local point of view.

if the sirens go off and dads at work....and your homealone you should have a safty plain and follow it. If the kids are at school the school has there any safty plain and will protect you. Moms shopping umm haha she would be on her own? HAHA If your sleeping and the sirens will wake you up...there pretty loud.

This info i just know from the tornado i was in before...but my family and me were all home but that didnt help my parents...

do we get use to it? umm tornadoes freak me out, but yes some people do some people don't...just when people move to this midwest they have to know we got some nasty storms that can produce tornadoes...i mean if you freak out during a tornado i think you have a higher chance of dieing...some people will go crazy and get in there car and drive which can kill them. people think tornadoes are what causes death but no the debri does...haha sorry if i went off track

Having a safety plan and following it is right, Okie Cali Girl. I know it must be hard for you when the warnings are on.

I keep an eye on the weather all the time. Most days they will tell you if there is a severe weather chance long before the sirens go off. Most workplaces will send their employees home if the weather looks really bad, or they have a safe place for the employees to go.

Another option is to keep a weather alert radio by your bed and it will sound off if things get bad in your area. The new ones are programmable for a city or county so you won't be bothered if the weather is bad 90 miles away (at least not for the time being). It's a GOOD investment and not that much money.
