Take a look at durant, it's a growing small town with strong job growth and a nice place to live. It's 85 miles from dallas so just across the border, weel se in oklahoma. Warmer winters and the scenic far SE area which has no water shortage. It's Hoke to the chock taw Indian nation and their large casino. There are good jobs unrelated to the casino as well. Recent expansions and new employers make it necessary to attract texans to work there. It's a college town too so has more entertainment than most it's size. I grew up there so based but take a look.

Durant is okay for starters, but you'd do Oklahoma better by being in one of the suburbs of Oklahoma City or Tulsa, such as Edmond and Broken Arrow. There's less crime there, more job choices, more shopping and things to do.

I'd checkout Ardmore. Another underrated town is Duncan. There's a helpful thread on all things Duncan on this forum.

Lawton has cleaned it's act up too.

I think I have to second the OKC or Tulsa suburb idea because OP could find a job there more easily. I also want to say you should check out the hospitals for a job. They hire a lot of housekeepers and you are more likely to get benefits.

No doubt, a medical professional probably would fare better near the cities.

Ditto on heading to the larger areas. OKC, Tulsa and Lawton have more resources. It's financially tougher to start over in the smaller communities. You may find yourself in a situation where you will never get ahead enough financially to leave.
