What's the live music scene like in eastern Oklahoma?
I'm considering taking a job with a company that has several plants in eastern OK. and western Arkansas. I'm also a part-time professional musican(guitarist/vocalist) and was wondering what the live music scene was like in that area. Is there a lot of dry counties? If, so which ones?
I'm 44, so I'm not looking to become a big star, just hoping to find a working band to play with on weekends for fun and a little side money. Most of my expierience is in Classic Rock, Country, Blues, etc. Mostly old school stuff.
Anybody have any idea how hard it would be to find a place to play live music in that area? What towns/areas would be the best and worst for live music?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanx.

It depends on what you mean by Eastern Oklahoma. That covers a broad swath and each town or county will be a little different. Now if you're talking about Tulsa, it has a very lively music scene. There are many opportunities for musicians of all types.

Thanx much. The company I'll be interviewing with has plants in: Tulsa, Sapulpa, Wagoner, Chandler, Bartlesville, Claremore, Pryor, Okmulgee, McAlester, Grove, Manford, to name a few. I might have some choice in which plant to work in and I'm not familiar with the area much at all.
I'm wanting to live in a rural area, but not so far from civilization that there's no nightlife at all. I'm curious about dry counties, not so much that I'm a big drinker, but no bars = few places to play music.
Any of the towns I mentioned sound like what I might be looking for?
Thanx again.

I'll second that. I'm not a drinker, but I like going out to listen to music.

Most counties, dry or not are going to have places to drink alcohol. A "dry" county in Oklahoma is nothing like a dry county in Arkansas, for instance.
Most small towns have places to get together and dance and such. I'm sure that anyone who likes to play music can get a band together and play local gigs.
I'm a musician myself so I know how you feel.

I only mentioned that because Synopsis and I are both bass players...
We seem to have a LOT in common.
He's on right now, so he can delete this if it's a private thing...
(Hope I didn't do wrong in mentioning that.)

I can tell you of a bass player who's moving into the area soon...
Rock and blues, but no Country except for
Johnny Cash's "Folsom Prison Blues" and CCR.
Welcome aboard!
M.
