Oklahoma is sounding better all the time! never realized there was such a music scene. I think I'll try and find a place within half an hour of Tulsa.
Hell, I might not even have to keep my day job, maybe I can go back to being a full-time musician! That is if they like old guys down there!!!

I was just reading last night about the Red Dirt Music scene and The Farm near Stillwater. I wonder if there is anything left of that today.

If you pull that off, let me know!
I'd be SO there!
Don't worry about being old...
Look at the Stones and Zeppelin...
B.B. King sits during his gigs now, and he makes more money than ever.
Also, my drummer turned 50 during a 2006 gig, and he's wilder than me (43).

the Stones, Zeppelin, & B.B. all first made it big when they were young & they're still doing it. When was the last time you heard of someone being discovered in their 40's?
I was kinda joking anyway, don't think I'd be able to make a comfortable living at it these days. I did it when I was younger 'cause I didn't mind being poor that much. I don't want to be that poor anymore!

You're right...
It's easily possible for the average shmoe to
make a "living" with music, but it does come down
how well does one want to live?
At least as far as us "mortals" go.

Ya, I'm far from "rich" now, but the way I struggled back in my 20.s when I was a "full-time musician" I'm just not gonna live like that anymore!
Don't get me wrong it was a blast at the time, but I guess I'm just too old for poverty nowadays!

I hear you...
I was happy enough until I had to support a family.
I had some REAL FUN in those days.
Technically, in a good band, one could make about $500 a week.
(At least here in NH and MA.)
If you're single, that might be do-able.
Hope your job works out okay.

I just saw Ringo Starr on the Late Late show last week.
He's still going strong.

Yeah, but Boris, I and the rest of us mortals aren't Ringo.

$500.00 a week is probably a decent living in parts of OK. especially if you could supplement it with some kind of part-time job.
I used to make about $300-350 a week playing music about 5 years ago & also had a part-time business. It was still a struggle. Kankakee, IL. the city that I live near now dosn't have much of a music scene, unless I want to drive another hour to an hour and a half north to the Chicago area.
Even Chicago dosn't have that fantastic a music scene for a city of it's size. Memphis, TN. where I spent most of the '80's had a great music scene at the time.
