The VT Air National Guard trains up here...
Had an F-16 break the sound barrier last month...
That was interesting.

Break the sound barrier? I haven't heard that explosive sound since the 60's.
I thought technology silenced that years ago.

I thought that they weren't allowed to break the sound barrier over any populated areas anymore. Thats why the SST's were restricted to flying into the New York and Jersey airports. But maybe I'm wrong.

I remember this:
Oklahoma City sonic boom tests - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Actually, I liked the booms. They did make little jolts like tiny earthquakes though, which would cause damage over time.

The DO go supersonic occasionally here...
They're also allowed to fly down to 100 feet
here...
Since it's low population up here...
Guess they don't care if "we" get killed.
Do y'all mean to say with ALL those air bases,
it doesn't happen in OK?

I haven't heard a sonic boom in years.
It probably depends on the kind of aircraft you have stationed around you. I don't think the AWAC aircraft at Tinker could get up that kind of speed.

We used to hear them all the time when I was a kid. There was a Naval station attached to Lambert Field, plus McDonnell, and there was as much military and testing going on as commercial flights. I know, it's an odd place for a Navy base, but it really was there - my mother was a civil service employee there, then went to the CAA, then the FAA, all in roughly the same group of buildings.
I hate to think of how many brain cells I've used up over that, I could tell most of the planes by sound alone, and the rest of them by sight. Not one of the things that was ever very useful, as it turned out.

I have always liked watching the different aircraft. We used to have some fighters at Tinker that would fly low around Draper Lake.
When I lived in Love County fighters from Altus would pretend to bomb oil wells around where I lived. Now that would knock you down when they came in flying low just above the trees.

earthquakes in Oklahoma? what next? I suppose Arizonans will be bringing their scorpians, Texans their armadillos, someone else their gilla monsters and cockroaches. oh, i guess we have all of those things. just that i have not seen them. If you move here from California and an Okie asks you were you are from, say, "I am from Calfifornia, but I really like it here so much better." Because they are so used to hearing, "I miss those wonderful restaurants, fancy malls, and great beaches." And so Okies are somewhat miffed at Calfifornians. I learned this from a replaced Montanan, when I said, "Why don't Oklahomans care for Californians that much?"
