1. Is it pretty there? Pretty as in hills, lakes, water. WOW water...I would love to be somewhere where it rains.
2. I know Velma smells like oil-is Duncan like that? What about Marlow & Comanche?
3. Any type of nightlife-country dancing ect.? We are 23 and 24 so need something to do!!The only place I have been there is the bowling alley.
4. Does it have that small town feeling? I love small towns so hope so!...
5. What is the major job there for men? Hauling oil? Hot shot...??
6. Lots of young people? Any type of college?
1. We think so! Right now it is pretty bland, but everything will be 'greening' up soon. It happens to be raining right now. There are 5 Lakes within a 15 mi radius of Duncan. Here are some pictures that were taken Dec. 31, 2007... Nothing but green in the spring and summer.

Duncan Lakes Drive

2. I've never smelled 'oil' around Duncan, or Comanche. Marlow does have some drilling going on, so you can smell a little if you are close to one of the larger wells, but I wouldn't say it stinks up the town or anything.

3. oooh... Nightlife. That's a tough one. We're old. Nightlife for us is a little TV before bedtime. I know there is/was a place just north of Marlow called High Chaparral that had a Restaurant/Bar/Dance Floor

I'll talk to my daughter and see if there are others.

Take a peek here for other info about area 'attractions' Visit Duncan Today! - the Duncan Convention & Visitors Bureau We do have two movie theatres in town as well.

4. Yes! Small enough to be friendly, but not so small that everyone in town knows what you are cooking for supper by the smell.

5. It really depends on what type of work you are looking for. Yes, Halliburton is one of the biggest employers in the area but not the ONLY one by any means. City of Duncan happens to be hiring for several positions in the Public Works dept. And I noticed a couple of the Banks are looking for Tellers as well.

Look here: Oklahoma Job Link for current jobs in our area.

Lawton isn't "Bad" ... Depending on your definition of bad. We do go up there from time to time, it just wasn't what I was looking for when we moved... it reminds me too much of the place we moved away from!

I'll try to gather up some more info for you soon... right now it's breakfast time.

Thanks! That was really nice of you to post the pics. We are actually going to Norman next weekend so will probably check out Marlow on the way. I love small towns. I grew up in one with 2500 and that or less is about the right size for me. I have been researching schools and really like Velma. I am not so sure about Comanche and cannot find anything on the Marlos school system. My son is only 5 months old but hey...I have to do the research sometime right??!!
Thanks again...I am excited about moving. Now if we can just get this dang house sold!!

Thank you!
Now we just have to sit and wait for our home to sale. We have listed it online and in the thriftynickelads but no calls yet It is a mobile home so realtors are of no use since their banks do not finance mobile homes. Hopefully someone will call soon!

You might as well put an ad in the City-Data classified ads forum, at the very end of the general forums. Be sure to put your town in the title.

Thanks for the inspiration Peggy!!!

I tried to turn my R.E. guy onto the CD Classifieds and CD NH forum,
but I haven't seen him there yet, so I did it myself!

You know the old saying...
If you want a job done right, you have to do it yourself.

I was going to post my post here to show where I'd be coming from,
but I wasn't sure if that would break the "No Advertising" rule, so I refrained...

Not that I would have been advertising,
but just showing my post...

But when in doubt... Defer to the mod.

Nosy person that I am, I went right over there and looked at yours ad. That is a big place, and then the barn is big too! Looks like a very attractive price. Any little bit of advertising helps!

A real estate agent can't use the ads forum. It is just for individual CD members like you.

You have to admit....
My commute is VERY scenic!

I've already heard from a woman from NJ,
but they're a year away from moving,
so I'm still not in OK yet!

That's what you think....

On the NH forum there's a woman who's handle or signature
includes the acronym "GRI" (R.E. person) who's very active there...
Here's her profile: http://www.city-data.com/forum/membe...-c-109746.html

She's not in the classifieds per say, but she's smart enough to live
on the CD NH forum (where people look for relocation info.)

My guy is not there, even though I made him hip to it.
So I did it myself.

Maybe the Okies (or future Okies) who are afraid
of tornadoes will be nosy and look too?

So... Haven't spoken with you for a while.
except for the "Air Show" thread (Which I appreciated).
Aside from being busy modding... How goes it?
