Default duncan area

I posted once before about moving to hugo/antlers area. Now my husband and I are thinking about the Duncan/Velma area. We have family there vs. none in antlers. Also, we know of a few jobs that would hire him. I have been to Duncan a few times but never really paid much attention to it. I am thinking we would probably live in Marlow or Comanche and work in Duncan. Can anyone tell me pros/cons of this town?

Hiya txgal As our resident NH flavored okie mentioned I am in Duncan.

You won't get any 'cons' from me, we LOVE it here. Is there anything in particular you wanted to know about?? There is employment to be found here, do you mind mentioning what type your hubby is looking for? (Mine works for the City Water Dept.)

I've posted about a zillion pics around here... Here are a few that I took around Duncan.

Thanks!
Well right now he is manager of a western wear store here in Texas so he has ALOT of experience in sales but he is wanting to change jobs. His uncle has mentioned a few places around Lawton hiring but not sure of the pay. He needs to be making atleast 16-20 dollars an hour to keep up with our bills. However, I was looking on realtor.com and noticed the homes and acerage are cheap around there. We HAVE to live outside the city limits as we have livestock.

LR is right. Duncan's a pretty quiet town. The only thing I can say that may be much different from what some people are looking for is, There,s no "night life" to speek about.
Crime is null, I can't say void because once in a great while we hear about a burglary or something.
I've worked in Marlow, it's 10 miles from Duncan and even smaller and Velma is smaller than Marlow.
Is there anf specifics about Duncan that you'd like to know?

I am from west Texas so I am used to flat land
1. Is it pretty there? Pretty as in hills, lakes, water. WOW water...I would love to be somewhere where it rains.
2. I know Velma smells like oil-is Duncan like that? What about Marlow & Comanche?
3. Any type of nightlife-country dancing ect.? We are 23 and 24 so need something to do!!The only place I have been there is the bowling alley.
4. Does it have that small town feeling? I love small towns so hope so!...
5. What is the major job there for men? Hauling oil? Hot shot...??
6. Lots of young people? Any type of college?

For night life you could probably drive to Lawton. Yes it does have a small town feel to it.
Duncan doesn't smell like oil. the air is very fresh. I've been to velma and actually never notice the smell of oil.
The biggest jobs here as far as I know is Halliburton.
LadyRobyn can probably answer your other questions, she lived here longer.

So I have heard bad things about Lawton. Is it somewhat of a trashy ghetto town? In other words, you would not want to live there? Maybe I am thinking of somewhere else but I am pretty sure it is Lawton

Do a websearch and pick several of the sites to look at. City Data's is the most complete of all the sites I've looked at all over the country. It gives a fairly good idea of what's available as far as jobs [at least the percentages of employment in different fields], incomes, weather, distances to various schools, distances to other towns, etc.
