In the short time I've been here, I've heard quite a few different accents. Actually, the difference is more individual, some people have almost no accent, others are fairly extreme, but it's the same accent, just differs in intensity among individuals.

On the other hand, I have a friend who spent the first 5 or so years of her life in Tennessee, and she's always had that sweet-as-warm-honey drawl. It's often a shock to some people when they realize just what's come out of her mouth! She was supposed to do a project for a Master's degree, and the instructor was making assignments to different agencies and picked a battered women's shelter for her. She said "Sweetie, yew reeelly don't want to put me thayer, cuz the first thang Ah'll dew is tell 'em where to bahy a guun, show 'em haow to shoot it, and tell 'em to kill the sumb*tch the next tahm he lays a hayund on 'em." Needless to say, she was assigned to a different place.

That's funny. I love that Southern Drawl.

Most of the Girls on Hee Haw had that type of accent.

That really is funny!!! I'm just personally not that much into the Southern drawl. We do have an "adopted daughter" in NC and I do like to hear her talk though.

Sorry but I just have to chime in here. Oklahoma is a huge state, Idabel is distinctly southern in every way possible (geographically, culturally, etc, etc) and Guymon is as far away from the south as you can get. To call Oklahoma in the South, Midwest or Southwest, all by itself, is simply stupid.

But...if you're asking me. Here is how I would define our area.

And anyone who says that the urban corridor isn't a transition zone is lying to themselves and needs to see the state a bit more.

Nameless, thanks for taking the time to figure that out. Guess it's obvious which area I belong in.

Speaking of... I've been all over the Southwest. Stephens, Jefferson and even Comanche Counties don't even come CLOSE in Landscape, Weather, People or Flora and Fauna.

Neither does Beckham county even, the only place in Oklahoma I think looks like the real Southwest is west of Guymon. I'd say a place like Lawton feels more like the Southwest than it does somewhere in the South like Jackson, Mississippi.

And maybe not Stephens and Jefferson, but Comanche county not like the Southwest? What do you call the Wichita's? Looks Southwestern to me.

I should've known better than to paint a line that close to LadyRobyn's residence
