We will be going on a road trip through Oklahoma in a few weeks. We are mainly going up 75/69 from Dallas to 40 and then East on 40 into Arkansas. I'm hoping some locals may know of some distilleries off our route that they can recommend. If there is a cool winery or brewery you would also suggest that's roughly along that route, please let me know as well. The trip is mostly for our daughter . . . but my husband would very much enjoy visiting some distilleries!!

Went on our trip - found a few wineries along our route, but weren't open when we went through.

Sorry for not answering, but I have only seen wineries, never a distillery.

The only distilleries that I know about locally are in Metro St Louis Missouri and in Metro Milwaukee Wisconsin. I am not familiar with the ones in the state of Kentucky , however there are many located there.

As far as wineries are concern The Lion's Share of those are in California in the Napa Valley and they are always open for business.

Best Regards howest2008....

There is a distillery in Moore, Scissortail. Tried their wares at Midwest City back in June... Free samples, the best way to try it.

There is a winery off Hwy 9 east of Norman. I am sure there are more.

Iron Monk brews good craft beer in Stillwater. If you never had imperial IPA beer before, then Iron Monk's kind may be a good way to try it out or in other words acquire a taste for it. My friend said it tastes like prune juice but likes it. It's characteristic for IPA beer to have a strong, bitter taste. I don't like it much, or that it's their highest priced beer. Their Stilly Wheat beer is lower priced and more to my liking. Iron Monk Brewing Company - Stillwater, Oklahoma Craft Brewery

Tastings in Napa used to be free. About twenty years ago that changed. Now you need a roll of twenties just to try three half-ounce pours of wine that, while excellent, isn't much better than some of the up-and-coming states' wines, such as Colorado and Texas. (Except Highway 290 by Fredericksburg wineries are charging a boatload now... hint, go to the ones off that highway. Or go to Grand Junction, CO, was there in October, almost every winery is free.) Some Okie wineries are charging a nominal fee but often cancel it if you buy a bottle, and several Oklahoma wineries are starting to make some very good wines, which is a real challenge given the weather in this state. A friend of mine in the Chandler-Stroud area made exceptional sauvignon blanc but had to close his winery a few years back after the big freeze of 2011.

OK, the next day trip will be wineries. I found some local reds. Maybe things will change after August for vineyards and wine drinkers.
