The children I see are either very well behaved or completely out of control. There are other ways to discipline children, like extra chores or no tv for a certain amount of time. Do they still have that show on about the professional nanny that comes into a home to show the parents how to control their children?

Super Nanny? I think that can be seen online on (full episodes) CBS.com – Official site of CBS
CSI Video: Grissom's Divine Comedy - CBS.com

That's it. I like to watch that show. It should be required for all new parents to watch that show. She never spanks, but she gets the kids to behave. She is like the kid whisperer.

I think I had one spanking in my whole life, and that was no "spanking" it was a lashing. But looking back, I deserved it. My parents believed in these things, because they were from an earlier generation; my father was 57 when I was born. I was raised good and didn't ever need that kind of discipline (except for that one time). As for corporal punishment in school, I'd have no problem with it if I knew the teachers and if my child was a constant problem. The thing is, no child of mine would need that kind of discipline because I wouldn't raise them in an atmosphere where they would misbehave so. But these days with all of the freaks out there I'd just as soon the school let me know and I would take care of it myself.

There was something so intimidating about seeing a paddle on the teachers desk, also if you were to receive that paddle at school then you knew you were in trouble when you got home. Oh, the good ol days when parents were parents and not their kids "best freinds"

I got my butt busted when I needed it at home and that's one reason I never got one at school. I'm glad my parents spanked me and if I have kids, I will spank them, too. At most schools I know of, another adult has to be in the room when someone gets a whipping so that it doesn't get out of hand.

i used to go to a small private school that dished out that kind of punishment. i think the parents had to sign a consent form to allow their child to be paddled. my parents told me that if i ever got one there, that there would be some waiting for me at home. thank god that never happened.
sadly, today they have stopped that tradition because they are afraid of lawsuits.

At an old Country school I went to, there was a wooden paddle on the wall, on the paddle it said,"THE BOARD OF EDUCATION to THE SEAT OF UNDERSTANDING"
