Vacation Advice
Okay, folks a little bit of advice here. I'm looking for a vacation spot for this summer. Scott wants a beach, Anna wants to horseback ride, Doug and I like a combo of relaxing and sightseeing. For the last 8 years we've gone to a resort in the Poconos that had all sorts of continued activities that you could join in or not, DJs in the evenings, bingo, fishing, two pools, etc. We were getting a little tired of that place after all these years, and kept going mainly because we went the same week every year, and met the same people each year. Now we can no longer go there, so we're looking for a new vacation spot. Where in OK would be a good place? Any suggestions?

Hey, you joke, but my son is going back June 4th to attend his GF's senior prom. My daughter's going back July 16th to attend her best friend's sweet 16 party, and we're all going back in December for the annual family brunch. I should buy some stock in the airlines.

Greenleaf
some cabins built by the WPA. a small lake east southeast of Muskogee. paddle boats, fishing, no big motorboats. a beach. quiet, tranquil. No entertainment, take a deck of cards or Monopoly. take a couple of books. you want entertainment, Pocono style, add a price of airplane tickets and go there. This is Oklahoma. We are comfortable in our skins.
Note: Be careful of high school boys with a Skoal can in their hip pocket, even at Greenleaf, they know what goes where, but they prefer to marry the girl and raise the kids. boys around here tend to step up to the plate.
FWIW, I've been to the Poconos.........would rather have a day crappie fishing at Greenleaf.

Don't wait until August, or you will all be spending the entire vacation indoors under the air conditioning. Maybe a cruise to Alaska to see the glaciers before they all melt?

How about Padre Island. I have always liked to go there. There is North Padre & South Padre. Here is a link about riding horses on the beach there, but there are quite a few different places to check out elsewhere:

Mustang Riding Stable; Horseback riding on Mustang Island in ...

Hi ya'll! Just thought I would add in my .02. I agree with Peggy, Padre Island is great! My husband and I took a vacation there in a big ole' bus/motorhome that we borrowed from a family member with our 2 little ones. We went to South Padre Island. Drove that big thing right onto the beach and slept with the breeze of the ocean coming through the windows. That, and a 6-month old baby who discovered quickly that Mommy was just a few feet past her portable crib..... got to see the sun rise though, very cool.
Of course, the humidity was horrendous, it was August. But, we had the best time!

Greenleaf is nice and it has a nice little waterpark close by... but the swimming beach kind of sucks and its more of a fishermans paradise...
Lakes to see in Oklahoma:
Grand (really big about a hour and a half from Tulsa)
Texoma (also really big on the border of Texas and Oklahoma)
Arbuckle (nice area and I think still has a drive-thru zoo nearby...)
Eufaula (again nice area)
Ten-killer (lots of cliffs to jump off of into the water aka cool if you're a kid
or an adult)
I think thats a pretty good list of my favorite lakes to go to in Oklahoma... I'm also almost positive that everyone of those lakes has a few horse-back riding companies close by.. this is Oklahoma after all... Look them up online if you are seriously interested... I have many wonderful childhood memories from these places.
