Post Relocating to Norman area - quick questions

Hi. I'm new here and hope someone can help me with a few questions.

My husband and I are considering relocating to Oklahoma (probably the Norman area - as that is where he has family). We are in our late 40's and have two older teen-aged daughters. We have 4 (indoor only) cats and two small quiet dogs (less than 25 pounds). Hubby will be looking for work in the banking industry and we are hoping to find a 3 bed/2 bath home in a quiet neighborhood (for about $150,000.)

We are thinking it would be best to rent an apartment or home for the first year or so, as we settle into the area. Is it even possible to find a rental home or apartment that would accept a family of four with six pets?

Since my husband and I are in our late 40's we're wondering which communities would have families about our age and circumstance. Can anyone give any advice? So far I'm thinking Norman, Edmond, and Moore, are possiblities, but considering my husband works in the banking field, he'd probably find work in the Oklahoma City (or Tulsa?), so the communte is definitely a factor as well.

By the way, since I am diabetic, I'd appreicate any recommendations or advice on finding a good Endocrinologist in that area.

Thanks so much for any advice you can give me.

~Hurrah

There are apartments in the OKC metro that take pets. This thread talks about big dogs & apartments, but may be helpful. Moving to OKC needing info on apartments

Update:

I found an apartment that allows as many pets as you like! (They just want a deposit per pet.) Isn't that amazing?!! Now, if all the other pieces fall into place we'll be all set.

We started planning our move from New Jersey to Oklahoma in the fall of 2006. In January of 2008 we traveled to OK to purchase a house, which we did. DH moved here at the end of February for a job, and I, my two teenagers and our dog flew out the following week. We love it here. My kids are still adjusting, but it gets easier every day. Finding this forum in November of last year was the best thing that could have happened to me with regard to the move. Everyone here was very helpful, and when I left NJ I felt like I was coming to a place where I already had a group of friends.

Thank you for replying, Colleeng47. What a coincidence! I grew up in northern NJ. I am so encouraged by your posts.

I just came back from a visit and you can find rentals that accept pets. However, there are some places that don't and you will have to put down extra deposits for the pets. Some places may want big deposits like $100-$300 per pet. A couple of property management places you might want to try:

Sterling Property Mgt 405-310-2222 Sterling Property Management
Buchanan Properties 405-366-rent

Sterling has a lot of new construction rentals at reasonable prices. Buchanan is a smaller mgt firm, but the people are very nice. I hope this helps.
