I was interested to see what you didnt like about Fort Drum...We were stationed there from 1997-2002 and then again in 2005. WE loved it, very safe and small town-ish.

We were stationed there from 2004- till may 2008, and we couldnt stand it there. The people in Watertown are the rudest ever, the winters were too long, they deployed way too much, theres no hospital on post, then when housing went private it went to hell. I did love going to Alex Bay, Sackets Harbor and the Adirondack Mountains.

Hi Iham3214. No luck yet. As a matter of fact we lowered our price today (it's already very low to begin with but having family together is more important.) So let's see what's going to happen this weekend. With what's going on with the economy, now I am thinking of living on post and put the kids in a private school if MacArthur School District won't take them. We went to housing a week ago this afternoon and I was told that we can probably have a house by end of August. I hope they really meant it. It would be great. They will allow my husband up to 90 days of free housing (for geographical bachelor kind of situation.) That was a relief. Will keep you posted. Will definitely let you know whether we will end up on post or not.

what rank is your husband? and how many bedrooms are you getting on post? The reason I ask is because we got here in May and we are number 1,057 on the list out of 1,117 for a 3 bedroom. But we are taking our names off the list though because we got a great house in the Macarthur school district.

PatoLiza,
I do love living so close to my husbands work, and all the stuff on base. They are slowly getting the house situated with work orders. I have found the housing office very willing to work with you, I was so surprised when they had one waiting for us, so hopefully it works out for you. Its definitely not the best Army housing that Ive been in ( not even close), but hopefully when Picerne takes over in November, they will start improving these old houses. Good luck!

Armywife, sorry you didnt like it up there, Im really surprised about the people being rude... The winters can be hard to take, and I agree about the housing the first time we lived there, it was much better than when it was privatized. It certainly is growing up there now.

To: Armywife: I can't believe there is over a thousand families on the waiting list. Wow! My husband is a Colonel and we need 4 bedrooms. He can retire next year if he wants to but right now we are not sure what he wants. I guess, he is going to "test" the water in Ft. Sill and see whether staying longer with the army is what he wants. I love the lakes and the mountains in Lawton area. I can see myself living there but don't know for how long. Wherever the Good Lord puts me and my family, that's where we will go. By the way, which rental office did you find/rent your house with? Thanks and till next posting.

Iham,
How bad is the condition of post houses? I bet the floor plan is outdated? But at least lots of space for extra storage? If we end up living on post, this would be the very first time for us. We usually rented and this house we are selling right now is the first house we bought in 2001. Will see what's going to happen this weekend and next week. Till next posting.

My husband has been in the Army 15 years...and I dont care for living on post, I like my privacy. I know they are building new homes, but some of the homes on post are so horrible looking. We rented through Sundance, now alot of people hate Sundance, but we havent had any problems with them. They tell you to take pictures and write everything down that you may think is a "problem" so you wont be charged when you move out. We rented a 2 bedroom 2 bath 2 car garage 1300 sqt ft house with an attic, central air, new applainces, new ceramic tile in the kitchen, new carpet through out, new ceiling fans and bathroom fixtures, big front yard and a large privacy fenced in backyard and we are in the process of buying our house from our landlord but right now we only pay 750 a month for it (a great deal below my husbands BAH),... we didnt really need a 3rd bedroom..it would just be more space for me too heat and cool, I love our house. We have a 16 year old son, so it was very important for us to get in the Macarthur school district. We looked at a condo in Macarthur Park, right across the street from the high school, it was nice, however it had no yard and I really wanted a yard...it rents for $850.00 a month.. I love Oklahoma and the Wichita Mountains, I love the fact that in an hour we can be in Texas or Oklahoma City...also Im a country girl through and through and I hate big cities. I just feel at home here and would love to stay here forever...but I doubt the Army will let us do that LOL If you need any help with anything or have questions you can always email me at fort_sill_army_wife@yahoo.com Im still a newbie here but I can try. Also if you are looking to buy a house there are 4 homes for sale on my street , they range from 99,000 -113,000.
