One positive thing, if only employers & the government will realize it ... they simply can't afford to throw away all of us Baby Boomers.

We've all heard about the financial issues facing Social Security and Medicare. The more tax revenue there is, the closer these issues are to being solved. The more Baby Boomers who want to work and can find jobs, the more tax money there is for these programs. You get the picture.

Now, if we can only educate the right people ...

Ted, I totally agree with you. The only problem is that I don't think the govt. or big business will believe us. You know how they are.

Here, MOST of the employers are pretty decent and treat people fairly well and are honest. But we've just learned it's not like that all over and that's unfortunate for employees. I wouldn't want to have to deal with a situation like that. Just WAY too stressful.

Redbird, is west Tx. sort of desert? We really liked the pics of the Ft. Worth area. The only thing missing there were palm trees, but thanks to Synopsis, I've learned there are some there. Gotta have the palms.

MK, we do have some humidity over here. It's the Hills area that has a semi-arid climate. Of course, it's nothing like OK and TX have for humidity. BUT I love the feeling of hot and humid. It just makes my skin feel good and I feel so nice and warm. I have a bit of health problems and the cold is just getting to be unbearable at times. I'd actually prefer 85 degrees every day, but could probably manage to settle where it gets down to 40. It'd sure beat the -40 temp/windchills we get up here. A few weeks ago our Sx. Falls station had mentioned that Sx. Falls had hit 100 days where the high didn't even reach freezing. Luckily, it's warming up now.

Synopsis, thank you and right back at ya.

Texas was one area that I considered. I have lived in various places in Texas, but the area I liked best was around Tyler because the trees are taller and it is lush. Canton is a place that I lived, and I loved that small town. Those are also the only places where it was cheap enough for us to live in, but it did get cold, even in San Antonio. Not much different than here. But overall, in all the places I lived in Texas, I really prefer Oklahomans. Just that some small towns in Texas didn't accept us because we were not raised there, and I kept that in the back of my mind when thinking of moving to either place. I know that this doesn't answer your question, but I think it is something to think about. In one town we were told that no one would rent to us unless we were raised there, and obviously we weren't.

Don't forget about southern OK. The area around Ardmore is definitely warmer than the rest of the state. You wouldn't have the high Texas property taxes, and there is a big casino in Thackerville, south of Ardmore. I haven't been there in a while, but Synopsis drives through there all the time.

As someone once said on here (I think it was you peggy), Ardmore is on the sunny side of the Arbuckles. Yes, there is a very large casino close to Thackerville, not too many miles across the border with Texas.

I lived down in that area for about 10 years. That was my main complaint, that it seemed like the hottest place in Oklahoma.

Jessaka, that does seem to be the way that some of the smaller towns are there. I've been reading the same things from a gal who is in small town Tx. and she's relocating. We don't especially like huge cities, but that would probably beat being outcasts in the community.

For some reason, I figured that there's the possibility that some of the more northern areas of Tx. would be quite similar to Ok including the people and manners, etc. It seems like that's a good possibility. Personally, I could be just as happy as could be on Galveston Island, but DH doesn't want to "hang out on the water".

Has the economy improved in the Ardmore area? The last I'd heard it was just so-so. I love the pics of that area.

And yea~the property taxes in Tx. aren't pretty. Actually, they're very similar to what we have up here. The reason both states have such a high property tax rate is the lack of a state income tax. They get you one way or another.

The economy has improved down there compared to ten years ago. Gainesville, TX, just across the Red River from Oklahoma, might be another choice for you. Further south to Denton, that seems to be connected to Dallas. There would be more jobs & better economy the closer you get to Dallas, IMO.
