I really hate having to post this.. but I figure I owe it to everyone here. I just got off the phone with my mom to let her know.. I've decided I'm not going to move to Oklahoma after all. My reasons for this are extensive, between finances, social aspects, and work. The biggest reason is finances.

I accrued/acquired quite a bit of debt between the time that I joined the navy and my divorce this year. Making wages in oklahoma would not be able to cut muster for what i need to get paid off.

Everyone I know is here. All my friends are here. I dont know anyone anywhere else in the country like I know my friends here. I'm also dating a wonderful girl and would like to see where that relationship goes. Most importantly though, are ALL of my friends. Theyre all HERE.

As for work, I have a plethora of options for employment here. I'm a firefighter/EMT, I have some serious experience in electronics and computers. I'm also very experienced in working on cars, with a slight bias toward diesel engines. My last level of experience and a last resort, IMO, is bartending. If i can pull a couple different jobs using these skills, i will be able to make substantially more money than if i was to pick up and move somewhere that i had no connections.. know nobody, etc.

Last, but not least, I've lived in New England now for 5 years, and frankly, I like it here. The countryside is gorgeous, the sights are plentiful. I've grown accustomed to the fast-paced way of life, and I'm not sure what I would do without it.

That said, I'll be remaining a member here and I don't plan on reducing any of my time spent in the oklahoma forums. You all are an incredibly awesome crowd.

Sorry to hear that J double R, but not as sorry as I'm sure your mom is. But, you need to do what's best for you, and it certainly sounds like staying where you are is definitely the best choice for you right now. I hope everything works out for you.

As a parent, it's so hard to have your child(ren) living far away from you. While you want them to grow up to be self sufficient and supporting, you would like them somewhat close to you as well. It doesn't always work out that way, though. The relationship between a child and his parents is the only love relationship that should work towards separation. Sometimes it hurts. Good luck. Yes, and definitely keep in touch.

Colleen said it all. As a mom I want the best for my kids and grandkids, but want them to stay near me. Now we have to drive to Maryland to see our grandbaby.

But, if you have debts to pay, j double r, you have to go where the highest paying job will be. You have a great mom, and I am sure she is very understanding of your situation.

Hi JdoubleR,
I'm very sorry to hear this. But as the previous Mothers said (although I'm not one of them) You need to do whats best for you and be where your the most happiest. I'm kind of in the same situation, in order to get a good stable job I may not be in this neighborhood when you are able to visit your folks. But I'll try to stay in or around Duncan, so when I hear that you'll be coming, I'll drive over to visit.
You take care now.

Just kidding J2R.

I think LR is is definitely blessed to have a son like you. You are both top shelf items in the Great Grocery Store of Human Beings.

Besides, you don't want to be a poor okie like the rest of us.

J double R,

I respect the fact you're taking care of business and doing what you feel needs to be done. Good luck to you and I hope you can accomplish your goals.

True that! And the first thing the MAN needs to do is call his Grandpa and give him the news... SOON.
He has been counting the days too...

Thanks to all for the good wishes. We know he will be fine. Just a little numb right now ya know?
