If you need assistance with finding a Realtor, let me know. I know a really good real estate agent in McAlester that can help you find a home.
Good luck to you!

At least as far as the 2 I've attended.

I'm an Italian Festival kind of guy. Having been in the Army, stationed next to Air Bases and dropped out of planes I like to keep my feet on the ground these days, preferably eating good Italian food.
I think I'm going to move in with CG and eat Italian food for about two weeks straight.

Bring your machine and your axxe and stay for the weekend...
Then you can justify your trip....
A $1,500 dollar value for a $150 fuel investment....
The wife can't argue about that.

I'll have to sneak the computer out under the cover of darkness; she'll suspect I'm sabotaging it or something. The axe I will definitely bring up, but on the computer, I'm serious. She'll really suspect that I'm up to something evil.

That is for sure!!!!!! I 've never seen such politics and have lived in many small towns before. We were transferred here 10 years ago. I have a lovely Ranch out of town that I love but I don't think McAlester has a lot to offer if you live in town. My parents moved here a few years ago and live in town and hate it. If you go to the Lake Eufaula which is nice, you will have to drive to McAlester every time you want any groceries.

I personally think it is McAlester more than anywhere else. I've lived in many small towns out of different States and this place has only a one party ticket that unless you are of that party you might as well not register to vote. I've never seen so many corrupt "in charge" people in my life.
This town or I should say area is very pretty but the oil companies are making it look like swiss cheese with the oil boom. Yes, I know that means money for the mineral owners and those that work the oil fields but for the rest it means tons of trucks running up and down rural roads.
Last week, I live way out on a rural area, a Mack Truck with salt water about what 60 plus tons just airborne on my property and landed in my creek. I don't see any skid marks. I will say the oil company was out in seconds, with fencers, new mail box and it took 3 wreckers to get him off my property. They stone, don't tell me they do drug testing, that guy looked stone out of him mind.
Big Mac doesn't bother me took much but it is ugly to look at. Can you believe this town once had a choice of a College or Prison and they took the prision.
You'll love the low land prices and if your outdoories type you have fun at the lake. We ride out horses every week and enjoy that. Restaurants are not that good. I am Italian and do go to Petes but I don't think it is that great. We got a Chilis and I guess that is a start. Maybe someday we'll get a nice grocery store so we do not have to go to Wally world. The other grocery store in town doesn't have half the stuff I need so I am stuck. It takes me almost a half an hour to get in so Wally World is where I have to go.

I agree with what you are saying, debbie. It is weird how the people in McAlester have been brainwashed in a way. I can't figure out how they put up with these awful and corrupt people for so long. On the other hand, if anyone spoke up, what would happen to them? Maybe the elections have been rigged? That's why the rest of the state had to vote for term limits, just to get rid of Stipe and his gang.
Hope we are not scaring you too much, montanamom.
Also, the oil field boom sounds great when you are not living down here, but the roads are being ruined by the trucks, the drivers drive like maniacs, and most of the mineral owners don't even live around here any more. We are left with all the pollution.
But, you are right, it is scenic, and there are great riding trails, lakes, hiking. It is just sad to see what a few people can do to ruin such a pretty place.

That's what I like so much about this forum. Honest answers to questions, both on the positive and the negative side, answered earnestly, and not sugar coated. Every area has it's pros and cons, depending on what you are seeking. Positive and negative, it's all good information when you are trying to make such an important decision such as family relocation.
You have to wonder about some of the other state forums, anytime someone inquires about something that may be a little "questionable", they are really quick to send out the damage control. I've lived in some of these states that are very popular destinations and being touted as "utopias", perfect in every way. Some relocaters are going to be in for a big wake-up call when they get there. I'm open to hearing the good and the not-so-good aspects of Oklahoma.
