Thanks for the replys. I'm really not sure what I'm going to do about housing. It's starting to look like I may be living in my truck for a while LOL. I have called all the apartment places but there is nothing open. From some of the comments it sounds like it is dangerious there. Is that just the driving, or do the oil people cause problems? How are the schools, and especially the special ed programs? That sticks about the politics, I am a big political junky and love getting involved. So is it actually dangerious there to have a political opinion? Up till now it sounded like a wonderful place to live. I just hope a made the right choice taking that job. thanks again for the input.

Only the driving is dangerous. The oil people are pressured into driving too fast, and their trucks are big. Our county has had to ask the highway patrol to help enforcing the speed limits, etc. Plus their big trucks tear up the roads. They have calmed down in my area, so they must have had some tickets and the word spread. Other than that I haven't heard of any complaints about them. They mostly are working or sleeping, not carousing around.

If you are having trouble finding a place you can look online at the local paper, there are sometimes places in there and you can google it, they only have one I think. Also, call the real estate offices, they handle rentals also. It is a wonderful place to live and I know that because my husband has been there for a month and he loves it, we hope to be joining him soon.....Good luck.

We are looking at a property near McAlester,a little place called Scipio.

If we sell our properties here we would move there tomorrow...sight unseen.

I am from the Houston area as well. I am looking for a place in either Euafala or Mcalster. Time is important as we are paying 2000 per month at the motel and it is so crowded. If anyone knows of a home at least 3 bedroom that is not more than 1500 per month and preferably about 700 a month I would love to hear from you.

Wasn't Carl Albert from McAlester?

Carl Albert was born in McAlester, but he was raised in Bugtussle, OK. Got to love that name. He was known as the "Little Giant from Little Dixie".

Seems to me he and Senator Robert S. Kerr were true leaders of the kind we don't see much anymore.

Yes, he and Kerr were two of a kind; good solid people that did what they were elected to do, represent the people.

I live near Scipio on a ranch between Scipio and Cabiness. On Cabiness Road. The oil people are nuts in this area. When we bought 10 years ago it was so quiet and remote. Now you see truck after truck and I have had the largest oil truck take out my mail box and fly 400 feet into my property and turn sideways in our creek. He drop gas in my creek which wasn't good because my cows drink in that creek. They cleaned it up but it seems to me the oil companies are wrecking the beauty.

Default Hello Fellow Houstonian...

Start calling the real estate offices in both places, the also do rental houses. That is how I found my husbands little house to rent. Also, look in the local paper as soon as it comes out because they go fast! I wish you all the luck, we thought we were going to have to put him in a motel and once we found this place we jumped on it! We got it through House Realty. Good luck..
