What really amazes me about this State that I live in is that they don't build storm shelters. I have now lived west of McAlester for 10 years in a newer home/ranch that was built without even a safe room. I have been argueing with hubby over this for years, maybe since last week he'll realize how it can be over in just a matters of seconds.

I believe storm shelters are optional and the owner has to have it put in.
I think you can buy a completed concrete shelter, dig a hole and drop it in.
Some places have them and some don't.

I have one here in Duncan.

The EF-4 tornado was on the ground in Oklahoma for 29 miles from 5:12 pm to 5:55 pm.

The pics are amazing. Just think of all those chat piles/hills being whipped up with winds 166-200 mph.

*Officials say no to rebuilding in tornado-ravaged Picher.

It wouldn;t load for me, but it makes sense not to rebuild. They have been trying to evacuate the town for years now.
